Certainly looks pretty apparent when cropped and somewhat when not. However, it does not seem objectionable, rather unusual.

Yeah WOW, stunning images Humanoid.

I took a peek at the Exif and notice you shot them at f18, there seems to be no apparent diffraction, am I right?

1/1250, f/5.6, ISO 800, 500 mm VR II, minor compositional crop.

For my purposes (wildlife), the files hold up well against the D800's up to ISO 400 and are still very usable at ISO 800.

Whatever softness is in those pics comes from the diffraction if it's f18.

Obviously his technique is outstanding. 600vr is nice too...

Thanks guys, still a work in progress!

The D7100 AF works great with the 600 VR and with longer glass the diffraction is not nearly, as noticeable as with zooms or wider lenses.
