Finishing up a backlog of photos from a trip I took last year. Took some time to take since I had to wait until my wife peeked out the window to look my way.
I can't seem to get the upload right since the original file size was gigantic (this is somewhere around a 10-15 image pano), so I'll throw in another image to give an idea of the sort of scale I was dealing with.
Yesterday, I boxed up my VR and shipped it to Nikon - LA for service. It doesn't want to autofocus.
I miss it already. It's my favorite little league lens and it's that time of year.
Yes it is the best sport lense when reach is not an issue!! The one stop difference make so much impact for capturing action and isolating the subject!! Sharpness is amazing wide open! Chubby nail it in almost every department but lose point for weight and loss of contrast when shooting against light sources.
For speed skating it is the king, king of low light!

Excellent timing for this shot. It's not easy for such action shots @f/2. Nice and sharp where it counts !
Any word yet as to what's wrong? Hope you have it back in time.

This was my first time to use Nikon service. Nikon now tells me that the lens is on its way back to me (Wednesday delivery) at a slightly higher repair price than estimated, but gives no indication of what was wrong or what they did to fix it. I hope the package includes a description of what they did with my $468. Mostly, I want it back in my hands!
