Yes, yes and no. It's performance at f/2 is superb but there are plenty of reasons to stop down. That last reason only happens with macro lenses as far as I know.

Most of the images here at 200mm are at f/2. That's the main reason why people have this lens (it's about 6.5 lbs!) It doesn't necessarily perform better at f/2.2 unless what you're looking for is slightly more DOF.
