This is a great example of the "hyper-real" look that the RX1R series is capable of. I haven't picked up a 35mm for my a7r iii yet. I'm still hoping Sony will release an RX1R III with IBIS and better low light focus performance. I know it's probably not going to happen, but we're getting closer to the time of year that Sony may announce new products - so I'll just wait it out for a few more weeks.

It could be, or it could just be a lucky mix of nice light, appropriate processing to bring out the range of tones and detail. I tried quite a few looks before settling on this one and I always try to eek out the most 3D I can in my photographs.
I've started a group on flickr which I tried to get people to add to with photos that have a nice sense of depth; good foreground and background separation with a wide enough angle to feel 'in' the image: https://flic.kr/g/rmKUf
I moderate the group and have to reject about 95% of the additions as I don't think many people quite understand the look I am after, but hopefully the pool showcases the kind of look you are talking about. Let me know!

I looked at the photos in the flickr group and maybe you're right, but when I look at your photo and then one that I had take the 3d look and contrast/depth are just as apparent - albeit in a very different way. I assume you took yours wide open. I took this one at f/5.6 but it still shows the ability of the RX1R II to create a very hyper-real looking photo.
