Thanks Gregg.
Kauai is my wife's favorite island and glad you enjoy a visit every year.
This is a test and I may delete this Sony Rx1rii image.
Curious if a full size image from my website can be posted here and how it looks.
Motorcycle at f2 1/2000 iso100.
Probably should have stopped down a bit, but oh well.
Kind of gives you an idea of what this camera/lens can do wide open in good light.
Here it goes.

Looks great to me Joe. I love how you manage to make the viewer feel like they are in the frame and part of the action. I find this especially so with your people images.... Well done. PS - what aspect ratio do you typically use?

Thanks Gary. I enjoyed your comment as I do try to get the viewer involved with the image - makes it much more interesting IMHO. A 35mm focal length seems to work well for that effect. Any wider and you really have to get close. I shoot everything 3:2 and crop as needed. Thanks again.

Some truly awesome images here – by some VERY, VERY talented people. I am humbled and learn a lot just by looking.
Well, the dogs and i finally got released from going on three weeks of mountain imprisonment. My wife’s nurse actually showed up for work today, tho’ she managed to get stuck in the snow about half way along the winding, narrow dead-end road up the mountain and I had to rescue her with the 4-wheeler (we must have been quite a sight on the little machine as she probably goes 275-300 pounds – it’s a wonder the front wheels stayed down). Regardless, I was FINALLY freed from 24/7 nursemaid duty for a while - YIPPEE!! In addition, after three days of work, I managed to plow the lane enough to free my Jeep for the first time since the enormous snow storm. So what did we do with our new-found (albeit temporary) freedom, you ask? I went to the grocery store.
BUT, I did sneak out to the ol’ homestead in the valley below where we live long enough to grab a few shots with the new RX1r II while the snow was still somewhat fresh.
Ms. Joy helping me dig out:
Come on, boys – move it will ya, I’m tryin’ to do some photography here!!

Thanks for looking. Hopefully more later this week now that the nurse has returned.

Birddog : Awesome clarity in your first shot and the rest is really nice, Great work !
Thank you, kind sir. I remain in complete awe of just about every one of your shots. The shots of what is I assume your German Shepard in the snow with the dim moon/sun are world-class. Thanks for posting!! Helps me see what can be done.
That first shot of Joy's face was heavily cropped. The huge files created by the Rx1r II's 42MP sensor slow down even my very fast computer a bit in post-processing, but they have their purpose as can be seen in that shot.
Now that I have nurse coverage again, we have been loosed on the world! One from today while the snow is still deep and pretty. Yes, yet another local 18th century (circa 1730) farm house, complete with buzzards on the chimney...
I'm hoping to actually get afield to chase birds with the dogs tomorrow if the weather continues to hold and the snow continues to shrink - so maybe some more interesting pics then.

How was shooting in the snow with rx1? Did you cover it with anything?
I put a UV filter and lens hood on to protect the lens and kept the camera in my pocket (one of the great things about this amazing little gem is that it actually does fit into one's pocket) when not actually shooting. Obviously, it got snowy and wet to some extent despite this - the snow was comin down in buckets. I dried it off after I got back inside and all was fine. Just like my "fine" shotguns (which make any camera look dirt cheap), I see my cameras as tools that have to go where I go every day - and I go into lots of harsh conditions. I don't abuse them, but I do use them - hard. If they get beat-up or whatever, that's what they are for.
Because there was no other choice, I've used non-weather proofed cameras in nasty conditions in the field for many years (blowing dust, vegetation debris, blood, snow, rain, mud, etc) and I've never had one fail as a result of that as long as there is an effort to use some common sense.
Once, when crossing a wide river in a tiny canoe with dogs and equipment when hunting deep in the remote Nebraska Sandhills, where there were no bridges within a reasonable distance, the dogs joggled the canoe and my camera fell into the deep puddle in the bottom of the canoe. When I discovered this, it didn't work, so I pulled the battery out of it right away. The Sandhills are an arid place and there was a hot sun, so I set it out on a rock in the sun for a day. After a day's roasting in the sun, it worked again and I was able to download the pics I had taken. A few days later, it died for good. This was my only camera loss, but it was completely submerged for a good while before I noticed.
I now do most of my shooting afield with a weather-sealed Fuji XT1 with weather-sealed lenses. Despite all of the brave talk above, I must admit, that this gives me a feeling of comfort.

An observation & just my impression, but I think that the RX1RII is the first FF camera I've seen whose output looks like that of a medium format camera. May be the contribution of the Sonnar lens.

Not only yours! It's definitely there - the plane separation is no longer 35mm.
