I bought a 28/2 FDn this weekend for reasonably cheap, with light fungus.... didn't notice it in the store, it's so light... ugh
Since it's an FDn, the beauty ring on the front doesn't just screw off, correct?
I haven't found a good demonstration online of how to open this lens up, I'd like to clean whatever I can on it- looks like it is just on the rear of the front element.

The front name-text ring should pop off, either via a dedicated hole in the barrel - check here for how on the 100/2.8: http://photo.net/canon-fd-camera-forum/00Yf4W?start=10
...or it probably prises off from the front - like this: http://ericwangprojectlog.blogspot.ie/2012/07/canon-fdn-50mm-f14-front-element-dis.html
also, i put my g45 all the way in the new rings and tuned infinity. it works great! and it matches my g28 now. of course i don't have a filter ring anymore since i shaved the old one off. leaves the optics rather exposed. wonder if zeiss has old parts... http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5482/11468299704_c0a65dcf5e_o.jpg

Mine is more or less finished, I need longer screws so I can shim mine correctly, right now the front ring extends out past the focus ring creating a small gap.
Sebboh, does yours need shims to reach infinity or extend past the focus ring?
If not, there may be differences between your G45 & 55/1.7 combo and mine

Any idea if these rings will work with a G35? I got my rings, but I haven't started this project yet. I was just thinking I might rather have a helicoid on the 35mm.

mine creates a gap at mfd when tuned correctly for hard stop at infinity. probably should have add an extra millimeter or 2 to the thickness of the rear ring. i doubt i'll bother shimming it since the gap is only there at macro focus distances.

the g45 rings will almost certainly not allow infinity focus with the g35. the g28 rings might work for the g35 but there is a reasonable chance that the internal diameter of the front ring may be too narrow or that the screws for mounting the optical block may be in the wrong location. sadly, i don't have my g35 anymore to check. i'm tempted to pick up another though for use on the a7 when i get one.

I brought my Frankenzeiss to The Camera Store as I had to pick up some lens caps for it and other lenses, I showed it to one employee and it wasn't long till I had other employees coming over wanting to get a look at the Frankenzeiss, comments like "What? No way? Cool! Etc...

Ok, that makes me feel better, 2-3mm should do it, yeah, I may shim it later, it will for sure do just fine for now.

Cross post from the 'most recent alt lens purchase thread'.
However, in this thread the LENS TURBO is in focus.
It is sitting between the Konica Hexanon and the X-E1

Have any of you torn apart a Jupiter 3 lens? I have one which has a stiff focus and very stiff aperture ring. I really don't want to invest even $20 in this lens and wanted to see if a lube is something I could do myself?
