My D800 was dropped and met a blunt object on the ground. LCD screen is cracked as well as the back panel bent in. I know these two will have to be replaced by Nikon USA repair. Any idea what other components may need to be replaced? The camera won't turn on.
oh my god! that does not look good. I dropped mine as well - but I only bent the hot shoe a wee bit - nothing that needle nose pliers couldn't fix.... and everything was fine. but that my friend looks like an expensive fix/replacement. I feel for ya!
Ouch - my condolences to your friend. One reason why I love my cheapo addition to my insurance policy for all my camera equipment...
No telling what go cracked/whacked. I'm a little surprised to see that much damage - was it one of those "tried-to-catch-it-but-ended-up-slamming-it" kind of things?
Send it in. I'm sure Nikon will tell you what other components need to be replaced. Too bad this happen to you....
Do you have insurance? I insured my camera (D800E) with my home owners insurance (Allstate) and I insured it for everything, including drops etc. (things that can be done done by me)
For the $3200 I paid around $40 a year. Something to think about.....

No, my friend had my gear in the shoulder bag and it fell out of the car and landed on some gravel. Apparently, the bag was leaning against the door, waiting for someone to open the door. I do have my homeowner's policy, but this is with a new company. I'm going to find out if they will cover accidental damage.

Sorry to see this, I would have liked to see your face when your friend told you what happened.
He told me over the phone. He wanted to meet to tell me in person but I remained cool for the most part when he explained it to me over the phone. He's a good family man trying to start his photography business with his wife and and they offered to give me a blank check for the full replacement cost. But knowing that he is a hard working man trying to provide for his wife and two little girls with a day job, I could not take the check. We're hoping that my insurance will cover it or that the repair cost is minimal -- whichever is cheaper. But in the end, it's just a camera.
I can't believe this is turning into an iPhone thread...

I'm guessing your company won't cover it unless you had a specific rider...Hope I'm wrong...
