Kinda disappointing that the 6D is basically a repackaged 5D II with a few insignificant tweaks. If I were in the market for my first full frame camera, I'd go for Nikon D600. It is a better camera in every possible way, esp the auto focus system.
For example:
6D AF - 11 point AF, 1 cross type point.
VS
D600 AF - 39 point AF, 9 cross type points.
Actually, that is not accurate. The 6D is a repackaged 60D with 20D/30D AF and a FF CMOS.

1. We're around! Take a look at the 6D thread over on the alt forum. People will pick this up over the 5D3 due to the interchangeable focus screen. D600 isn't an option for alts.
I'm assuming that if the 6D takes the same kind of price cuts as the 5D3, it'll be about the same price as the current 5D2. The 5D2 used price will probably plummet, leaving everyone happy
I spend more time on the Alt forum than here nowadays, and that's one of the few groups that I can imagine would be happy with this camera.

5D2 AF - 8 non-cross, 1 cross, 6 assists
hmmm
granted they may have made the non-cross work better and the center probably works even better for one shot, maybe like a 5D3/1DX?? then again it sounds like it probably uses a consumer level AF sensor again like evn the 7D did so non-cross might not be so hot
hard to say
dropping assists for AI Servo may well make it tricky going for some subjects and sports

boring, as with all Canon's latest releases...
I'm so sorry you are having a boring time with Canon cameras.
In decades of photography I have never been bored making photos with a Canon camera in my hands.
Good luck on the Nikony side. You'll surely make better pictures since Nikon says "you are only as good as your equipment". Bye bye.
{ Funny thing is that given the astounding leaps in improvement of SLRS and DSLRs in the last 25 years, photographers haven't improved nearly as much. Far from it. }
I never use the N word.
I am disappointed in Canon for not keeping up with Sony on the sensor front.
That, and these constant releases of boring material.
BTW, I just bought a Kodak SLR/C to compliment my 5DMkII, I like it!
Also, with magic lantern, my 5DMkII feels like a new camera.
So, not sure what all the emotions are about...
First you spend big dollars on the 5D3, even though it's features means nothing to you. And then you are willing to switch it for the 6D, which surely must be even more meaningless.
Oh well, each to their own.
Why not? Since 5D III is out I think about how to finance it. I use a 5D II and need higher ISO, a more sensitive AF and (yes) usable in camera jpegs at high ISO. There was no camera offered in the whole market. Nikon still does not (like sonce I shoot digital). I guess if Canon would not have introduced 6D I would have purchased a 5D III around December/January. If I could afford it, I already would have done. If the D6 does good enough what I need, of course I would have thought about reselling 5D III and get a 6D. I do not belong to those who are able to through money away. And I guess even I would be able I would not do it.

4.5 fps instead of 3.9fps
25600 ISO instead of 6400 ISO
2 more focus points.
3.2" screen instead of 3" screen.
the 2 stops better high iso is dicey, the SNR, will like the 5D3 likely be 1/2 to 2/3rds of a stop better only, but for select scenes, the lack of junk in the high iso shadows might make it 2 stops more usable at times, anyway it should be better though
For that, you lose;
1% less viewfinder coverage.
1 megapixel
Also one uses CF cards and the other uses SD cards, which may be seen as an advantage or disadvantage depending on what you already own.
For what its worth, I am still happily shooting with the original 5D and have seen nothing worth spending thousands on in any of the new bodies.
ability to use custom focusing screens
and 6 less AI Servo assist tracking points
joystick controller and side buttons on the UI
sounds like it is less weather-sealed, they call it "drip proof"

Underwhelming.
I can see no real reason to consider upgrading my 5DII to this as I have no need for a touchscreen, wifi or GPS.
I'm not the kind of user they are looking for but if I were I'd buy the D600 every time.
The 5D3 is the upgrade for 5D2 users. The 6D is to attract new users to DSLR or get some APS-C users to FF. The bad thing is that the D600 looks better, so a totally new user might get lured to the dark side instead.

No WB button - not a problem for raw shooters.
No buttons along the left - finally! Some of us have noses.
Interchangeable screens - better than 5D Mk III.
Depth of field preview finally in the traditional place.
The buttons at top right each do only one thing - a huge improvement.
This looks like a good bread-and-butter camera to me, the first from Canon for a long time. The AF system is what it is; not everyone uses fast glass.
it does have interchangeable screens then?
hmm that is a plus, too bad the 5D3 got caught out in the experiment to do away with that

The cameras Canon has been making lately are crap. Only 22 Mp or 20 Mp, and not even a texting capability ? The sensors are crap too.
You can imagine my problems with the puny 18 Mp 1DX sensor......no wonder my pictures are crap too. I think I am switching to Apple or Nokia or something small and cool that allows me to surf the internet too and also play Warcraft games.

All of the talk about Canon's supposed missteps and their certain demise really humor me. They have been steadily taking over the DSLR market (at least up until 2010) and these cameras are just a small portion of their business anyway:
As of 2010, Canon controlled 44.5 percent of the DSLR market, followed by Nikon with 29.8 percent and Sony with 11.9 percent. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_single-lens_reflex_camera#Market_share) Their market share may have slipped a bit last year but I can assure you that they are still firmly in the lead.
You are talking about a company that had $45.6 billion in sales last year and made a profit of over $3.1 billion. Their imaging unit contributes only 36.9% to their total sales and of this, DSLR's probably only contribute 5% to that total.

Yes, it seems Canon really doesn't know what they're doing. Having said all that, this camera will sell very well and I guarantee it will be sold out on launch day....Show more →
Ugggg..
Who cares what Canon did in copiers, scanners, lithography gear, print engines, or even cinema? This forum is about photo gear, and the posts are about what Canon is doing in this market. Canon's sales in other markets don't matter squat to 99.99% of photographers, nor does their stock performance.
Canon's performance in one area has zero bearing on other business units. If Canon chooses to short change, ignore, or even abandon this market, then it affects all those that have invested - lightly or heavily - in their gear. Canon consistently delivers less, for more. Have fun shooting a scanner, or a print engine...

I dont get the new sensor, why , why create an 18mp, 20mp and 22mp sensor range? Unless this one can be made cheaper than the others.
yeah that seems very cost inefficient, but they seem to be all about margins, so i don't know, maybe something about it makes it so much less to make as to more than make up for needing another line running
maybe it will have a shcoking DR break through, but jeez that will make the 5D3 an upset, either get a crummy spec 6D with good DR or a good spec 5D3 with poor DR

Looks like your sensor put a black defect near the bird's eye/beak. Must not be very fine!

You should really quote the whole statement, you left "It's still bound to be a very good camera, of course; just perhaps not quite as good as it could be." off the end, but you knew that.
