So what would you have done a couple of years ago when a clean(ish) ISO 6400 was a pipedream?
IMHO there is a big difference between *need* and *want*
Imo, too. A couple of years ago I shot two negativ films to get one or two acceptable images. I did it for fun and used fuji 1600 film. Today I shoot events and press for business without athmo destroying flashes and need ISO 3.200 as standard, 6,400 often. I would go higher, if my gear would let me. But this is what my gear gives me as maximun. Often this is not enough. so I want to grade up.

Well I wouldn't have got any shot at all would I? Either that or a noisy and blurred "H" shot. There's nothing wrong with wanting ISO 6400 which translates into getting shots that you need for the client.
Well no, using the gear I was brought up on you wouldn't have got the shot, unless you used supplementary lighting.
But still somehow we made a living with a usable maximum ASA of about 1250.

What's your real point? That we shouldn't express opinions or that yours is right?

I just wish Canon would at least keep up to latest sensor developments.
I don't see that they are.
Sigh, I like Canon, have been a user for a looong time now.
I really love my 5DMkII, and Magic Lantern has made it a new camera to me.
I don't see the 5DMkIII as a viable upgrade, too little to offer for too much monies.
Nor do I see this 6D thing. I don't even see this 6D thing as a first FF.
I'd rather have a 5DMkII with Magic Lantern.
It just seems Canon is lagging in the sensor department, especially compared to Sony.
And this 6D thing, I don't see any innovation, I see it as a rushed out issue, same with the 5DMkIII.
These are my opinions, as others have theirs.
I try not to become too emotional, 'cause that is just crazy, and I don't have enough time to keep up with good posts that I can actually learn from, and definitely not these types.
I just want Canon to excel, and as it is, I feel let down.
I would hope someone from Canon actually read these things, as they NEED to get the sensors to have more DR, plain and simple.
What excites me?
I recently got a Kodak SLR/C to compliment my 5DMkII, I like it a lot already!
Always wanted one.
That, and a recently acquired, converted to EOS Contax N 85/1.4
Both are great for my tool kit!
These excite me more than any recent Canon offerings.
Just wanting Canon to know this, some how, some way...

The question no one has asked is, "How does this new AF array fit in with Canon's new STM lenses?" Since this is really the first released body that is coincident with the new lens AF system, it seems more likely that it is not just a cruel random crippling of the AF system as some posters suggest, but possibly a coordinated new AF and the Digic 5+ processing.
Having just viewed a couple of the Canon promo videos made with the 6D, the imaging seems excellent.
(Sorry to mention video here in the "Still Forum")

There are some nice new features on the new compact entry level full frame, such as AF sensitivity to -3ev, built-in GPS and WI-FI, etc... but with it being so similar to the 60D, why remove the articulated LCD? Keeping it could be a reason for 5D2 landscape shooters to upgrade...

Fred -- Again, me not being an engineer, I'd say it would have to do with the added body thickness needed due to the larger mirror box/shutter/sensor assembly. Unless I'm mistaken, this is probably why we don't see this on other Canon FF models.

Fred, just not enough. Hardly enough. yeah, a touch screen articulating LCD, pop up flash with commander function, and 7D's autofocus would make this a nice camera at 2100 price point, despite canon's aging sensor technology, well behind sony's exmor sensor. as it stands now, it is truly truly unimaginitive, disappointing and outright pathetic. Canon Needs to price 5d3 to compete with d600 (around 2600), and make a deal with sony for their sensors. 6D as it stands now is a $1500 camera (if that much)

What do you think?
BTW -- I'd love to have it as a feature too!
Yes, I tend to believe this too. I assume that Canon tried to simplify that one, in order to reduce size, weight and cost, and the articulated screen is just one of the things they can remove in order to better work on that target.
While I see a use for articulated screens, I am not too sad not to have it on my DSLRs, as it looks just like one more thing that can break easily.

I think that's harsh. The 6D will be a very good camera that will produce outstanding images if used properly.
What it isn't is in any real way revolutionary (unless you are a mad keen fan of GPS or wifi)
It doesn't do *anything* special, revolutionary or exciting. It is hard not to see it as a missed opportunity to really freshen up the Canon prosumer FF market and at least try to poke Nikon and Sony in the eye, and it seems to fail that test

1 cross type? really?
might as well get the 6D, and least that's not crippled where it counts. FWIW, dont think canon sensor is that far behind sony's. The 1Dx reviews considerably better than the D4

I have a sony NEX and love their Exmor sensor. I would switch to Sony if they only had nice glass like Canon. I have way to much money invested in lenses to switch bodies. So I guess I'll stick with 5D II and III and see what is offered down the road. Disappointed with the 6D

I managed to read a few pages, but do have this question, Aside from the 7D's pfs, everyone talks about how nice the Af works. Will the 6D be the same or better? The FPS isn't great, but it is better than a Rebel. lol
I've looked at either a 7D, 5DII, or maybe even a 5DIII or 1DIV as the next body. Not really sure where this camera might stand in the line. Based on the first two, it would seem this may fit in well at the $1,500 mark, but at $2100

I've read many posts/threads on multiple sites. People are finally waking up to Canon, and the response is 85%+ negative. Canon has done this for 6 years now. I purchased multiple 5ds, including some in early 2006 and a couple in 2007, for $2100. New. With warranty.
Maybe people aren't waking up to canon. Maybe they're very happy with other cameras and think this one looks less great. Something to consider..
Thats certainly my position. For my market the 5d3 is the best camera around when you take everything into account, full stop, and one of my friends is leaving Nikon and his d4 and d3 and soon to be d800 behind to come over.
Clearly you're not happy with canon as a whole but it doesn't mean you're right, which the statement "waking up to" would imply.

The 6D's AF will be much worse than the 7D AF except for maybe the center point. Answer: Buy a 5DII, there's really no reason to buy a 6D over a 5DII.

+1
The 5DII is still an excellent camera and the prices are dropping. The 6D won't be available for ages.

my guess is that the AF will be at the level of the 5D2, which is ok, just not great. The AF on the 7D is really good, but you can make due with the legacy AF. At it's price point, all of the focus points should be cross type.
