the proof is in the pudding.

AF is nice and low price points are nice, but the clarity of leica and other M lenses + sans AA FF tuned to them....

by market killer I did not mean to imply all other cameras would be worthless---just that it might be a huge success.

what a gear race we going these days!

Rico, thanks for the frameline trick.

Now if Sony revived the Konica Hexar RF or even a Hexar AF with built in viewfinder, would anyone be interested? The design data is probably still somewhere in their Minolta/Konica storeroom plus they do have M mount lenses that are quite decent. I doubt there is a large market for such a camera but it could a "statement" that they have a broad product line to cater different segments? Sony are you listening?

One of my biggest gripe about the new M (Type240) is that the Leica logo is too large. So I'm sure there will be a logo-less MP Type 240 with sapphire glass at some point and I'm probably one of the few who is looking forward to shooting some videos on the new M and I'm not happy Leica left out the mic and headphone input

Maybe they'll be available as accessories, like the XLR jack accessory for the a99. I'm not sure you'll see that from Leica, but maybe a third party.

In case you missed it Joe, the add-on stereo mic that slides in the hotshoe, allows the microphone end to be pulled off, revealing a phono port, into which you can plug in other external microphones... though apparently there will be some sort of compatibility restriction.

BTW, David Farkas's M info has been very detailed and worth reading, if you haven't already.

I now noticed another FF mirror less without rangefinder and with changeable lenses and sensor .

http://www.alpa.ch/en/microsites/alpa_12_fps.html

Only costs isn't that good, and seems like no M lenses.

Thank you Mike, Gary, Joe and all

Robert, I tried C1 previously on Canon and Sony files and it produced very nice results, but I thought DPP and ICR were slightly better and free even if they lack sophisticated functions, so I never purchased it. I will give it a try with M9 files.

Agreed. It is by far the most reliable info about the M at the moment.

It's not about Leica or Zeiss, but more about manual focusing and how it feels and the way you can focus for the whole scene not at a specific point like AF. I feel that I get much better focusing with the RF of the M (or Zeiss Ikon) and the LCD/EVF of the GXR. Of course, when I used manual focus lenses on the A900 and 1Ds2 I wasn't entirely satisfied as focusing was much more difficult and required more concentration and eye strain.

That is kinda bizarre... Looks like something made in the '90's...

Have u tried the C1 pro 6? I find the keystone correction pretty easy to use to straiten the perspective, much easier than photoshop. Just select some strait lines and press okey.

the older C1 5 and the C1 non pro 6 versions however don't have the key stone tool.
Cropping is not as easy as in photoshop indeed.

Hmm, I'll have to check when I get back on my personal computer. It's just the trial, so it may not be pro.

Nice one! I totally missed that--which is not surprising, hehe.

what will that thing cost and what else do you need (besides lens)?

@edward I hear you re RF. I wear glasses -4, and have not got that comfortable yet (I have an M6 & a contax)--but I need a diopter.

the nex OLED has just enough correction I can use it sans eyeglasses.

Basically I'm in tri-focal territory

Anyway I envy your ease with the RF

Well, you're going to need a digital back!

Not necessarily. A film back will work too and is "slightly" cheaper.

Thanks, Ron I read the review earlier on and it was very informative especially with 25fps and mic volume adjustments on the new M. As for the mic add on, I would have preferred to use my Rode mics which have a built in cold shoe mount. The rebadged Oly adapter although it has a mic input jack, does not have a separate cold shoe mount, which means that I have to rig up the M if I wanted to use a Rode or other mic on the Leica. Also in LUF some of the pro video crowd seems to think that the Leica M won't be suitable for video as most of the M lenses has short focus throw and that R lenses seems to be more suitable. Let see what accessories will eventually come up, would be interesting.

-Hust..er..sorry, Solms, we have a problem.
-We like the new M. We're not thrilled with the price
-We suggest :
1) remove the redundant rangefinder
2) rename the camera as Leica not-M
3) reconsider the price - say.. $3500 ?

-Solms, do you receive me ?..
-Solms..?
-S O L MS !!

Why would you want a Leica without a rangefinder?

:2) rename the camera as Leica not-M

Leica makes more than one camera. Just calling it "The Leica" would get confusing.

3) reconsider the price - say.. $3500 ?

Leica needs to make a profit. The cost on the M9 at release was much higher than $3500. Factor in profit for them, and then profit for the dealer. There wasn't a lot of money coming in. On top of the low yields they produce in comparison to other camera makers.

:-Solms, do you receive me ?..

They heard you. Which is why they incorporated live view and included the option for an EVF. Because of customers like you that need those features. On the other hand there are customers that purely want a rangefinder camera. They found a balance by including both.

Regarding the new naming scheme ie M Type 240, I couldn't help but be reminded that Zeiss once used a similar naming scheme when they made cameras long ago, such as the various Zeiss Ikon Ikonta's:

http://camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Zeiss_Ikon_Ikonta

Leica copying Zeiss..how about that!
