I am very surprised by your statement. I was not even aware that thre was any semicon manufacturing in Bergium, let alone something as exotic as a C-MOS FF sensor. It reminds of the time when Nikon were busy denying that the D3/D700 were sourced from Sony, because it was perceived as a negative, but, now that Sony have turned that perception around, Nikon are quite happy to acknowledge the connection. So, Belgian sensor it is, then?

don't know anything about them. do they have their own fabs?

I like their beer, but that sensor can be a hit or miss...
CMOSIS is not a weird CMOS manufacturer :-)
They are not common in consumer cameras, but in machine vision and such.
We start selling a camera model with their sensor in autumn (Prosilica GT2000).
It's made by CMOSIS and these boys are heavy in recent imaging patents.
Based upon their "Technology" page I'd imagine the Leica M to have a dynamic range advantage over conventional CMOS products.
As to the chimney (Read Pana GX1 type) viewfinder and the arm's length SONY Style "Focus peaking"––those might be a BIT tacky compared to Fuji's new viewfinder toys. BTW I'll guess Fuji puts the X-Trans into the X100 (Now the X200?) ups the price to $1,300 and drops the X100 to $675. Anchoring good IQ in pocket market segment.
But Fuji has yet to roll out the "Big SUMO" FF X-trans 18MP (24 true MP) howitzer. Imagine THAT one in "MONOCHROME".
Then we have a load of Carl Zeiss CSC lenses including auto focus in 2013. Then we have the already teased 35mm SLR 55 f/1.4 torpedo that "Delivers Medium format results" (Think APO Summicrom M 50/f2 "AA") but for the Nikon/CANON fanboys. Her Dr. Professor Winifried Sherle will LOVE to show up the "AA" at say $3750". The good Dr. also mentioned a new fast ZM puppy––can you say Distagon 28 f/2?

Am I sick if I suggest that the new M hass a lot in common with the newly-announced Nikon D600? Same Sony-sourced 24Mp FF sensor, video, LiveView, blah blah blah... The major difference will be the rangefinder, Vs autofocus, but that does not affect iamge quality. The major differentiator in IQ terms will be the lenses, and also the on-board electronics. Oh, and another trivial difference, the price... Really, there must be something wrong with me...
So the D600 takes M lenses? The D600 is a rangefinder?
The New M is actually cheaper than I thought and not that bad of a deal. The ME is pure FAIL. $5400, are they kidding? I can get a M9 for $500 more Just drop the price on the M9?
When you are talking about Leica money for lenses and bodies, why would you skimp $1500 for the ME when you can 'eventually' get a M? The ME is about $1000 too high.
As to the protecting the used M9 market, dropping the price by $1500 in the last month for new ones didn't help. I really don't see why they did that since the M isn't going to be out for awhile. They should have kept the M9 price where it was and Poof, the ME price looks better.
I guess the good thing is that they left the $3000-$5000 price point open for Sony, Fuji or Zeiss to make a FF interchangeable lens camera.
Looks very nice. Can't wait to see if the M's 24MP sensor performance/ evaluation prove it to actually be a re-branded Sony 24MP sensor with a few tweaks or if it's really something new.
Edit. I think if I were Leica and actually requested a new, unique sensor from scratch, I would make it a very uncommon and unusual MP number (maybe 27 or 30MP's) just to drive the point home.

I have read the pricedrop of the M9/ M9P is because of the difference between euro/ dollar, not a discount. In the euro countries the price is still the same.
Big difference in price is the VAT (from 19 to 21%) is included in europe prices.
So:
Europe: M9 = 5495 euro or 7200 dollar including 20% VAT
US: M9 = 5990 dollar + 20% VAT = 7200 dollar including VAT
Europe: M9P = 5995 euro or 7800 dollar including 20% VAT
US: M9P = 6500 dollar + 20% VAT = 7800 dollar including VAT.
So its only a price correction, not a discount. Great for US people nevertheless.
I know it has been posted before but I just can't help myself!!! I have always wanted to stick my R glass on my M bodies and now it has come.
Ok, back to earth. I love that feature of the new offerings but I think I will hold on to my M9. I like CCD's and it just looks like the trashed the layout of the body. It looks like they handed the M9 to a Chinese factory and told them, "put a big screen and include video." I don't mean to be harsh but they more I look at it, I started noticing more and more things I love about my M9 and bodies older than it.
-That screen is a little much. Why not just lose the wheel in the right and such and putt 4 keys on it like a phase back?
-No frame lever on either of the new cameras. I understand it not on the "budget" model but the new "M" that is supposed to be the King? I guess there will be a new MP 18/24/etc.
-The more I think about it, this leaves one option, another M camera...the Leica M Classic. For the Leicaphile. No logo, so engravings, manual advance and a frame preview. $1500 extra.
I thought my M9 was going to look like an old dog left in the rain after this announcement but I'm really happy I didn't act rash and sell it. The R-M adapter is great but it would be fun for 5 minutes for me. My canon is better suited.
I will wait until the news continues to roll out to see if I am swayed. Still think the M8/M9's are powerhouses.
