To make the lens so small, it very likely has elements only a few millimeters from the sensor, inside the camera body itself. I'd say there is no way this lens comes off the camera.
People cried and whined about the X100 having a fixed lens and look how successful that camera was/is.

Agree. The sensor probably has offset microlenses optimized for the lens as well. I guess this was the only way they could overcome the cornes issues for now.

Put this new Sony next to a Nikon D700 and see the difference. Just because the Sony does not fit in your pocket does not negate this difference.
it'll fit in my coat pocket. is there even an apc-c camera that is more pocketable? (retorical question, the answer is no!)

To be more specific, about 95% of people who likely wouldn't of bought the camera anyway where the ones complaining.
Nothing against the P&S crowd, or people who's only camera is a DSLR is a Rebel Ti w/ kit lens etc, but so many times those are the people I see filling comment sections about what a joke a fixed lens camera is and how they aren't going to buy it. Well frankly even if it had a zoom lens etc those same people still wouldn't buy it. Did they rush out to buy a Xpro then with its ability to change lens ? Nope lol
It would be like me complaining a BMW M5 doesn't have a cupholder because you know what, even if I had 8 cupholders, there isn't a chance in heck I'm a legitimate potential customer for that type of car save for winning the lottery.
Let me be clear, there are people who do need/want a zoom lens and that are great photogs and maybe were potential lost customers, but of the naysayers, they are usually a small minority in a huge group of non potential customers who just like to bash stuff on the internet

Coat pocket sized cameras are all well and good......however, you know what I hate just as much as carrying a camera bag everywhere ?
A coat when its 90 degrees out!
Its nice of course when a camera can fit into a coat when you actually want to wear on. But then again, I can actually fit a FF pro DSLR sans lens into my ski parka lol

I wonder how much Sony plan to charge for a FF NEX?
Technically, if they took the 35mm f2.0 Zeiss off, it could cost only $1,999. However, I have a feeling they will do what Fuji did with X-Pro 1 and charge more than expected for a interchangeable version. Still, I can't see this costing more than $3k for an interchangeable version. I still think a problem for an interchangeable version is that lenses for the system will not be as compact as people want them to be .

I guess my jeans are too tight, because, as I mentioned earlier, there are no cameras that fit in my pockets, because they're already full with my phone, keys, etc.

i live in san francisco. everyday the high is 75 and the low is 55. i am always comfortable in a light coat (that can hold my NEX-7 plus 40 cron no problem incidently).
having lived in chicago i see your point. i was too hot going out in the summer in just a swimsuit.
