Maybe you can release the lens by pushing the lens in and rotate! hahaha

Yeah, you put it between your palms, press down, and the orange ring should unscrew then you can glue on a M mount adapter which should fit perfectly inside the orange ring!

There's a line of discussion on another forum, that suggests that the RX1 is in fact the 'hybrid mount' camera that has already been rumored (see SAR).

The reason there is no lens release button on the RX1, is because (it is postulated) both the e-mount and a-mount adaptors that will be made available, will have to offer their own normal mechanical release buttons, consistent with their operation for lenses. Eg. there's no obvious release tab on the RX1 because the adaptors perform this function. In line with this, is the symbolism of the red-ring, which is the same as and designates Sony ILS cameras (It's identical down to the writing with the a99).

Also, existing WA short flange lenses (eg biogons/leicas), sit well inside the throat of the NEX cameras. There is nothing unique in having elements situated closer to the sensor than the flange distance.

Another point is that the only source that I know, to claim that the RX1 is non-ILS is SAR and this was made when only pictures were available and before any other details like pricing were floated. Can it be presumed that the fixed-lens status was solely derived from an examination of the leaked photos (revealing no lens release). As proposed, the 'hybrid' approach outlined above would explain why this apparent feature needed for ILS is missing, and why an incorrect rumor is circulating.

Anyway, so much speculation, but I thought it was interesting.

I have this strange feeling that someone will actually try to somehow mount a different lens on this. I think there were people who removed AA filter on the Nex 7 just to see if they could get better corner performance on rangefinder WA lenses.

that won't work, too close to the sensor.

I don't understand why people are now talking about the fact it doesn't fit in a pocket.
Come on, it's a FF camera! It's already really small IMHO.
I have the RX100 and the overall performance is great (fast), so I'm not worried about the RX1 either. The sensor will also be great. What worries me is the lens.
Please Zeiss, let the lens be fantastic. Hopefully it has a nicer rendering than the 24/1.8 sonnar for NEX, which I don't really like.

agreed, i actually like what i see from the x100 lens more than ZA 24/1.8.

the Z* 35/2 and 35/1.4 are both excellent though...

this needs to be a lens that has a nice rendering for portraits and sharp across the frame stopped down.

i'm torn. that is large chunk of change. i'd need to sell some stuff to buy it, but i'm sure it would last me at least 5 years (hopefully more). the problem is that during that time a FF csc would probably be introduced and i'd want that too.

I agree.

Honestly, there isn't a huge different between this and an X100, X1, X2 for me. Sure, a larger sensor and Zeiss lens is nice, but it's still a stepping stone, which I've tried to avoid up to this point. Right now, I can buy an X100 for £650, and I KNOW, it's not exactly the same thing technically, but it's in the 'stepping stone' category for me.

On a separate note, how on earth do you guys use OVF with such cameras? I can understand using central AF sensor, using the green/red light flash, recomposing. But how do you meter? Just blindly leave it up to the matrix system?

The only camera that will ever fit in my pocket is on my mobile phone. While I generally wouldn't want even a wallet in my jeans due to fit (I use a moneyclip/cardholder, anything larger would feel awkward), having a full frame camera in it is out of the question.

As long as I can throw the camera in a bag (go on, make the satchel joke from Hangover), or in a jacket, I'll be fine.

Can you elaborate

A snap on OVF would have no metering information. When I use my SLR, I'm looking at the numbers, judging the scene, changing metering modes etc. With this, you're just looking through a glass hole AFAIK. This is why I ask the question - if I misunderstand it, please tell me.

You would use the OVF only for composing your shots, there wouldn't be any camera information visible though a OVF.

That is what I thought, and is what I was getting at. Makten has confused the matter slightly :S

I was just wondering what people do for metering is all... As it's pretty important, at least to me, to know what you're metering for, or how you're metering, unless you want to spend all day fuddling exposures in LR.

I usually shoot in manual mode. For film I use a handheld incident meter, for digital, I take a Polaroid shot adjust the exposure and use it for subsequent shots

I never use the camera meter.
