How would it be better? Can you explain?
OK! I will try:
Sony: (Let's forget about 'ground breaking technology achievement' here)
++24M STOA sensor,
++Asuuming it also has very good 35mm lens
++better LCD and LV
--MF sucks
--Build quality : Nikon V1 like body, I should attach images for both. I feel this is most insulted part for $2800 body.
--No VF, either OVF or EVF. Another home run.
--Fixed lens stuck at f2 and 35mm, No 1.4/1.2, NO other focal length
--No upgrade path
--resale will be a disaster once FF NEX show up next year
--For you, what to do with your best of best Leica lens?
Leica
--Sensor (though at base ISO, it is good enough for most people but need UV/IR filter for color)
--poor LCD and no LV
++Rangefinder (a different experience for 2nd system, I assume most people talking about 2nd system here)
++Way better build, comparable to film leica body.
++OVF
++access of huge leica and Zeiss and Voigtlander lens
++Most import it is a real camera, you have direct access for shutter, Aperture and quick control of ISO, WB and Exposure compensation.
++resale value
Since I am talking about value, I predict M8 will stay at $2000 and 8,2 at $2500 for a while, and you will not loose as much money if you buy it and sell two years later. As for R1, look at NEX7, only about half year, you can get it $800 offnet without knowing NEX6 and NEXX are coming.
For me, (maybe it is just me) A M8/M8.2 is not another consumer electronics will likely obsolete in a couple of years. once I consider Leica M(8 or 9) is just a Camera, a tool instead of a consumer electronics, I feel a lot more tolerant on its crappy electronics even sensor.
Yes, Leica retail is over priced for sure, but in this case for $2000, I don't think so, at least is not as bad as $2800 sony.
It is just a different value system between you and me. To you, maybe SOTA sensor and down to pixel level performance is more important than handle/shooting experience and access for more focal length and awesome glass.

Compare this to all those boring "one more" Canons and Nikons. Seriously.
Not gonna mention Leica, but I agree with Huff, if they don't show something
SPECTACULAR in a couple of days, they will be trashed.
Since you mention Mr Huff, I just visited his website about all his Sony talk and A bunch 'PREORDER LINK'. I don't know how you guys feel, I feel very sick after read pale word again again without any real useful information but lots of Amazon, BH link. I can't bare his attitude that rave pretty much anything new and provide a bunch preorder link.
He seems change a lot. People trash KR. But KR did spend a lot of time document Leica stuff and even NIKON AIS, which I found is very good resource that I use often. But I can't say same thing about Huff.
I just realize that I should not have such a strong opinion about it which may offend potential costumers for this camera in this forum, so hopefully, I explain my position on this thing. It is just my opinion.
