If this thing doesn't have a tiltable screen I'll probably pass. Too bad, because it could be the camera I've been wanting for the last few years and I'd have no problem at all just ditching everything else for it. I don't even care about the price.
Strangely, I find myself in complete agreement with you and it's a very uncomfortable feeling.

that's subjective i guess because i think the x100 finder sucks compared to the NEX-7.
Of course, the NEX-7 EVF is exactly why I sold my NEX-7 and the heads up/ Hybrid OVF is why I want another X100 (or it's replacement), but yeah, it's subjective - particularly if you don't see anything special about using an OVF.

The NEX7's OVF? The X100 has a not so great evf from what I've seen, but I wasn't aware this is why people bought it.
And Tariq, this came to mind with me as well. Been looking at it from a distance for a while now. £645 new in the UK. Told myself I'd wait to see what happens at Photokina...

Yes, I'm waiting as well on my X100 repurchase - and it should not be much longer.
Imo, the X100 EVF only has to be good enough to feed the required info to the OVF and occasionally quickly check focus/ composition (the only part of it I actually used).

The problem with the NEX-7 EVF is that it's too high contrast. In less than ideal bright light, it gets too difficult to use, I just use the LCD.

There's a mode you can use where you turn on JPEG preview but that also causes another problem because then it won't use the wide open aperture to render the EVF which sucks in low light.

I was able to work around most of that - though it was obviously never going to be at the level of an OVF/ reality. My biggest issue was eye relief and what is likely the poor optics used in the NEX-7. IF my eye was not exactly pressed up to the finder and centered correctly, all sorts of issues occurred. Blurry image, CA you name it. In the end, the finder gave me a headache after using it all day.

Will probably opt for laser eye surgery at that point. My sister did it and she said it was the single best thing she's ever done. She's a mother and I said, you mean after your kids right? 10 seconds later, no, this is the best thing I've ever done.

Yeah, I will have to look into that. I guess there are some risks (which is scary for someone who relies on their eyes for work).

I have same problem (lots of blurring & CA if my eye isn't centered), but sticking a larger eye cup on it made it much easier to center my eye.
edit: and I have better than 20/20 vision and no trouble with close focus.

You can lower the contrast of the NEX-7 EVF quite a bit if you turn jpeg contrast all the way down and use the neutral jpeg setting. For me, removing the eye cup helps a lot in centering my eye.
I could live with the Fuji X series if the OVF wasn't even hybrid, but just had some kind of center AF indicator. The EVF is certainly terrible, but occasionally useful. I do miss using MF with it. If the RX1's OVF has some kind of focus confirmation, it'll be nearly as useful to me as the X100's OVF in most cases. Either way, with the NEX cameras, I use the tilt LCD most of the time, and then use the EVF when the sun is a real problem, so that would be critical for me in the RX1.
p.s. I got LASIK a few years ago, and it was one of the best decisions for me, too.
