I just picked up a OM-5 and from the short time I have used it. I can say, that I would really miss the view finder like the one in my OM-D . As some have mentioned focusing and composing in bright light with the back LCD is almost impossible.
It amazes how many people can't seem to comprehend this issue. EOS-M and all the fancy advanced P&S are al dead-in-the -water to me just for lack of VF option alone. It's an appalling way to compose 99% of the time even if glare and direct sunlight weren't an issue.
So I also went for the OM-D due to the high quality VF. I would have probably gone with the Sony NEX-7 but lack of lenses and 24MP APS-C turned me off.
I've gone through this exercise recently. I'm still using my 1Ds2. It is indeed a very faithful shooting machine. But I wanted something small that I can bring for the non-photo travels (like business trips). I considered Nex 5,7, G1X, EOS-M, RX 100. I found that they all had a lot of problems. Then, I realized I was complaing that they were not FF DSLRs. Photography is about compromise. Once I accepted that I had to compromise, it became very obvious to me that the interchangeable lens systems don't make sens when I already have an SLR. By the time you put a lens on it, the camera is no longer portable however small the body maybe. I finally got a SONY RX 100. So far I'm very happy with it. I'm utterly impressed by the recent technologies like Face-tracking . This will never replace my 1Ds2 but I am seeing that I need both. http://www.sesee.com/photo/exports/1Ds2_RX100.jpg

It amazes me how you seem to comprehend what everyone's needs are. I for one could care less about a lame EVF on a camera that will replace my iPhone and S95 for everyday pocket camera.

After giving these MILCs some serious thoughts, I have to agree. All the above plus the awesome Sony sensor in the OM-D makes the camera highly desirable.

So you really think this is a toy camera that is just for happy snaps that will fit in your purse
I think your deluded as what market this is targeted at with that pricing and IL.

You seem to be some random guy on the net giving out your opinion as valid information. Another expert on the net without anything to back it up.
In that case who are you?
The lack of a EVF is a dealbreaker for many. Myself included.
I think this is a step in the right direction for Canon, but is a bit of a missed opportunity considering where the competition is at. Look forward to the v2, or the higher end version.
How could I miss this thread?
I didn't know an eos-m was announced until today
I've tried the Panny GF1-20mm, liked it but didn't want to maintain 2 work-flows so I sold it.
Now, I am excited for an ultra-portable camera with high iq to go along with my serious DSLR. I will definitely get one of these when the price settles a bit. Can't wait
Have any started to ship yet in North America? I've been waiting to read some more hands on reviews from FM members. Is anyone going to get this camera?
Just read on CR that the new date is October 31st for the US. This is from B&H and other stores changing their listings after it was expected on the 15th originally.

Canon make great cameras that in the right hands produce great images. They have done so for decades.
Anyone who can't get decent images with almost any products today is just lacking the skills to do so....so maybe less hours wasted posting on sites like this and more hours practising is the way to go.....

Yeah no one around here actually knows how to use a camera let alone actually takes photos

Some people on this site take brilliant pics....I always look at the images posted under the headings dedicate to posting photos. Unfortunately that is counterbalanced by the 'photographers' who seem more interested in analyzing to death various bits of gear when they could be out there getting quality images with what they have.
I would argue that if camera development had peaked with the Powershot G10....and that was all the best photographers had...the world would still be inundated with memorable images.

They are not mutually exclusive. Talking crap on the forum doesn't mean squat as regards what people may or may not do with their camera(s) in the real world. Forums concentrate whinging, but doesn't mean they are just arm-chair critics with the exception of obvious trolls that pop up.

I was hoping it would be shipping by now, too many preorders ?
