"What brand of oil should I buy?"

Most common answer: "Buy the slippery stuff."

Oh wait, wrong forum...

The direct print button

The "I am going on vacation, what lens should I take"

The "I just bought a $3500 camera body, what lens should I buy"

The" I am really mad at canon for putting "X" on this body or "not putting X on this body" or how come Nikon can put "X" on their body......"

Yep. All of the above.

On rare occasions they are good for a laugh.

Photography is a systems commitment. People who use Canon have invested in Canon system; cameras, lenses, flashes, etc.. If Canon does not produce something that as Canon user needs, it is not a simple thing for the users to switch.

So, because you bought a camera, lenses and flashes from certain manufacturer you feel from now on they have to produce an upgrade product with specs you want at a price you want? Just curious.

...never mind all that petty stuff, which high quality cheap protective filter should I buy and why should I shoot RAW when jpeg looks better?

I've watched them all. I don't consider it a competition when both get my eyeballs anyway.

'Cause everyone already knows that if you shoot jpeg you should use a filter, but you don't use a filter if you want the image to be raw. Isn't that obvious?

Re Trek vs. Wars: Star Trek (2009 reboot) spanks all the Trek and Wars movies before it except The Empire Strikes Back

With regard to the original 1977 showing of "Star Wars: 4ANH," you had to have been there then to know what a special place it holds for those of us who were there then. There had not been anything like that movie before except "2001"...and that had been an entire decade earlier. It did SF effects that had only before been imagined, while incorporating old favorite story lines and plot devices with fond nostalgia.

I was in Honolulu at the time, and "Star Wars: 4ANH" played for 14 months straight in one of the primary theaters--and there were lines around the block that entire time. You had to be there then. I doubt that any other movie has sold as many tickets.

Watch out, there's some folks around spring loaded ready to cry 'anti-semite' at the drop of a hat.

I think only Gone with the Wind has it beat, if you're talking # of tickets (domestic only, international figures unavailable but may put Star Wars over the top, as I would imagine it being a larger international sensation than GWTW, but I could be wrong)

Yes, I'd include foreign tickets sold. Of course, this doesn't even count how many people have viewed it on cable.

I think he meant that that is one of the topics he wishes would die, because it comes up almost every time they close for a holiday.

I've never tried auto ISO.
M mode would likely be the only mode I'd use it in.
Otherwise the camera would be changing two variables instead of one.
I barely trust Canon to make one decision for me, let alone two :-)

I never understand the complaint about forum topics?
There is a thread title.
If you don't like the thread topic, just don't click on it.
It is obvious that people like commenting on the same old topics, otherwise the threads would very quickly die and fall to the bottom of the list.

yes, exactly. It starts with someone asking why B&H closes for 10 days at a time. But then someone will throw in a "these people" which will be followed by a "courage of their religious conviction" post. Soon it will break down to a religious argument and then Henry P will jump in and try and settle everyone down.

Agree, but it will never happen. People will still ask "lens dilema" quetions, posting photos of ducks made with $11k lens, photos of lenses and cameras by itself and discuss how good this lens might be looking attached to some body We will not fix this .... It is just funny to see them over and over again.

I may be relatively new to photography but I'm no spring chicken. I was a sophomore in college when Star Wars came out. So I was there; I stood in lines for the original trilogy, etc., etc... I don't dispute Star Wars' cinematic and cultural significance nor its box office supremacy. I was considering the movies in and of themselves purely in terms of storytelling and the cinematic experience. You have to admit that Return of the Jedi and the later trilogy were signifcantly weaker than the first two movies. (Am I the only one who cringes when he hears the name "Hayden Christensen?" )
