p.1 #1 · New login and minor layout changes...

We have changed how the site login works and as you probably have noticed, you must login in when changing devices. That change was necessary to tighten security even more.
As a tip, set-up the browser in all your computers, laptops, tables and mobile devices to remember your login info for easier retrieval.
Some layout changes were also made to the PM, Home, Board and Topic pages. They were minor but to some users very significant. Thanks for your all your feedback.
All the best,
Fred

Fred,

I switch between phone, iPad and computer and on each use a shortcut to my posts to access the site. Now due need to re-log in on each device I get this screen when using the shortcut which has no fields to log in, or a button for the home screen:

http://super.nova.org/EDITS/Login.jpg

Could you please add the login fields to that page?

Thanks

I sure hope all these changes have a benefit because all I'm having is problems. The font size is uniform between forums and threads but it is so small that increasing size sufficiently to read comments makes images huge. And every time I open a new tab I have to increase size again, something I never had to do before. I'm not a luddite, but the site worked beautifully for me and for folks I now before the changes and now it is challenging. I know that changes are being made in real time which means we're riding in a vehicle that doesn't operate the way to which we're accustomed and it is frustrating and confusing at times. Just saying...

I also note that discussions of matters relating to these changes no longer appear in the Forum listing. What's that all about?

FWIW, Curtis, et al, I'm having no apparent difficulties with the fonts or picture displays. I've not had to make any changes on those posts accompanying pics. After my first post inquiring WTF right after you post, Curtis, asking that, I've had no problems with the representation of data, text or photo, on the various sections of the site. I'm using 10.7.4 with Firefox 13.0 beta update stream.

I guess I need to access FM through a different browser. Thanks for the heads up Tony. It is good to get feedback from someone else. Hope you're well...

Firefox delivers small font size but consistent formatting and no other problems. I'll keep using that for awhile. Thanks again Tony.

Curtis,
I just made same big changes behind the scenes.
You will be able to use Safari or any other browser and change the "minimal fonts" to any size you prefer up to "18".

For example, in Safari: Go to Advanced tab and check on: Universal Access: "Never use fonts smaller than ..." the default is 9 but you can choose 14 or 18.

The same for Firefox: Go to the Content tab, then Fonts & Colors, Advanced: "Minimum font size: ...." The default is None, but you can choose any size up to 18.

I hope this helps.
Fred

Curtis, your browser might have a setting that keeps images a constant size while changing the font. That's necessary. In Safari, it's in the View drop down menu and called 'Zoom Text Only'. Check that. I don't know where it is in other browsers, but should be there for you.

Like Fred says, I set my minimum font size to 18 under the Advanced tab in the preferences window. This may make some other sites a little weird, so you may need to back down to 14 or so. It's all experimental.

Fred, is the purpose behind the login change to alert users when their account has been logged in from an alternate computer?

Yes and no.
Only one device can be logged in. If you login somewhere, you will be logout elsewhere.
However, the main reason for changing the login scripts was to set a session ID in the cookies rather than actual login details.

The Zoom Text Only suggestion is great, thanks Jeffrey. I call myself a Mac Addict but unlike quite a few of my friends I'm a relatively low-tech user. I look to friends and acquaintances to do the heavy lifting. This helps a great deal, I'm sure. Firefox is working but there are features in Safari I've come to appreciate.

And now, from my Safari browser, this update..

When I make those changes I'm still getting nonsensical tabbing of post entries, some left justified as always and then others moved to the right then farther right, then back to the left. I can handle it but it is a bit crazy making... Of course, that may be appropriate for me...

I also learned I can't be logged on multiple browsers since I had to log in to Safari and when I returned to Firefox I could no longer post a message. I can see the logic of that though if I had multiple devices it might be a pain in the butt to have to re-register over and over again each day. This explains why when I visit a friend and log in to FM, and then return home, I must log in to my computer again. Just thought I'd mention it since things are in flux...

Curtis, is that a section of the page you captured or is that everything you're seeing? If the latter, then you're having an issue I can't identify. Enlarge your browser window? Increase the resolution of your monitor, which should be at native max res if it is not there now.

No Jeffrey, that is just a slice of the whole screen. I'm working on a 27" iMac with 2560 pixels available to me in width and have the browser window covering most of my desktop. I've set up the browser as discussed here with a minimum font size of 18. I've no idea what is happening with the indentation of text. Incidentally, when I opened Opera to see how it handles the site, it has the same problem with indentation. The Firefox browser is fine though I'd prefer using Safari for a variety of reasons...

You are really stretching the limits of the site layout!
Try again and see if it looks better.

I emptied the cache, shut down and restarted, then visited a thread in the Canon forum I've never visited before... the condition still exists. Here's a screen shot showing the indentation at the left. I'm not certain it relates to the field length for City/State. If confuses me.

In Safari, when putting default to 14 keeps from getting the view Curtis is talking about…but at 18, it does mess up the alignment as he shows here…on a MacBook Pro 17" inch anyway. Will say tho that at 14, it messes up other websites viewed…sites like Washington Post and FaceBook get really tight and hard to read. So not going to use the no smaller than feature in Safari and live with the small type.
