Have to agree on the per-device login. It's becoming a pain in the ass. I'm fine with the other changes.
I wanted to come back and comment on this again. I'm not trying to be a pain - really, but some of us have names that auto-correct loves to play havoc with and can push us to logging in more than once - even on one device.
Additionally, I really don't want to be putting in my info as I move around the city to different locations. That alone seems much more dangerous than requiring us to enter info each time.
Surely, there is an alternative solution to the request for login data... maybe based on a user signing in from a different country or region? Something that makes a little more sense from a security standpoint?
I have to say just coming home from vacation and having issues the whole time I was gone going from my phone to my laptop, and now between my laptop and desktop this re-login really sucks.
If this is how it's going to remain, I'll voice my opinion with it by no longer renewing for the buy and sell when it comes up. This in my opinion is a terrible change.
This re-login requirement is a bit of a pain in the butt, but I enjoy the FM site altogether so not a huge deal to me.
I can understand security concerns over cookies and multiple devices or something, but I have to wonder if perhaps a per-user option to "enable multiple logins" would be in order, so that people constantly switching between phone and PC, for instance, could enable their option at a somewhat increased security threat ?
Luckily for me, my 2nd device is my iPad, so typing in my user + password is a bit easier than phone. Were it phone and PC, it would be a lot more annoying.

While I love the website, community, and it's members this change is a huge PITA for me. I routinely use 3-4 different devices a day depending on what I'm working on or where I'm at to access the site. They are all only used by me and are all personally owned. This change makes it extremely hard to bounce from one to the other and still have access.

Security is first for me and that is why I decided on this system as default to all members. However, I understand the inconvenience. I will work on something. Perhaps a profile option for this.

Thank you for the consideration Fred.

I hope you can come up with a solution for those of us who use multiple devices in a single day. It sure takes the fun out of trying to catch up on a thread that is moving fast(Manual Focus Nikon Glass thread) And have your phone make you try to login 5 times because auto correct doesn't like your name or password, rather then hit a quick link bookmark and read a page and go on.

Eliminating cleartext login/password from stored cookies was a good idea, and security is certainly important (especially where the B+S forum is involved). I must, however, add my vote to the unhappy users of multiple devices. I reach FM from my desktop PC, Android tablet, and Blackberry phone throughout the day. Repeated logins are driving me nutty!
Here are comparisons between Firefox and Safari showing FM text with text from the San Francisco Chronicle. If I increase the minimum font size in Safari above 14 it screws up layout of FM and so squeezes other sites as to be unusable. At 14 FM is unreadable. Although Firefox gives me the flexibility to read FM with a minimum font size that doesn't screw up layout, it also makes other websites type very large. I attribute all of this to the reduction in font size on FM which I still don't understand.
The security stuff is fine and important, but the biggest problem with the new layout is how it handles new tabs.
When you click to open a link in a new tab (for instance, if you're browsing the buy/sell) it now opens it in a new tab AND REDIRECTS YOU TO THE LINK ON YOUR MAIN TAB! AHHHHH! Terrible, terrible, terrible. Metacritic did this and I stopped using the site.
I'm guessing there is some revenue-based reason to do this? If not, it is horrible and pointless.
Been a member (paying) for a pretty long time now.

It actually did this before for me, as well. (And yes, it's very, very annoying.)
Thanks for adding the login fields to the recent posts page, Fred. Would it be possible to make it so that when you log in from that page it reloads it so you automatically see your recent posts (rather than having to go back and manually reload)?

There will be implemented soon. It most likely will be a "Profile" option determining for example: "Inactivity logout after: X days". The user will configure this and decide the level of security he/she wants.
Best,

I am doing everything possible to protect FM members from a potential hack. It's a hassle to login in every device but it's the only way to really secure this data. Thanks for your understanding.
Fred
I'll echo that this is a huge pain in the butt. To be honest, the best way to secure all the FM members from a hack (to their FM accts) is to shut the site down completely.
That said and in seriousness now, there's a balance to be struck between security and usability as they're always in conflict. This inability to log in on more than one computer is going a bit too far IMO.
If Gmail, eBay, Paypal and the like allow multiple logins maybe this is a bit of an overreaction.
