Yes. I had pretty much figured out where he was headed by the end of the first paragraph. It is so much more efficient when the writer signals what is to follow early on... ;-)

I was not familiar with Weeks, though a quick look shows an interesting and edgy point of view in some of his work.

Scott Bourne? ;-)

In the good old days, before blogs, most guys ("major playa", "titan on the industry" or not) would've been out with their fellow photgrpahers at bar drinking and ranting about how sucky Canon or Nikon is but now everyone has a lot to say to the entire world...and so they blog about it.

I did like his work FWIW.

Scott Bourne is Jason Bourne's younger brother.....

@ Tom,
Thanks for the links. I still don't think he is a major player in the photography industry. The movie I viewed was more like an advertising for Leica.

No question about it. He has tremendous passion for the Leica M series cameras.

Could have done his readers a greater service by skipping the F-bombs and
giving more detail on the situations where Canon E-TTL let him down, for example.

I can totally understand why someone would make the switch; but he didn't make
his experience a worthwhile read for me.

I can't get past the first paragraph. Such a poor writing.

Pretty much. Or... if he had been a Nikon shooter going Canon nobody in here would be bitching about his style. It would have been irrelevant and discussion would have been talking about how much better Canon is than Nikon. lol

You should take wireless flash system off that. Nikons flash system has always killed Canons.

Sounds like it comes down to ttl flash differences and his inability to figure shit out.

Have not read it, don't intend to. No need to look elsewhere for this type of rant & agree with the following comment.
"Whenever anyone, be it a photographer or plumber, feels the need to publicly list why they are changing tools unrequested, you can bet your bottom dollar they have an axe to grind".
I make my choice at the counter & live with it-other grown ups should do the same-assuming the gear is not defective & meets the legal reqiuirements for sale. People should accept responsibility for their actions & not blame others for their poor decision making. Life is a cycle with its ups & downs & businesses are no different with the popularity/quality of goods they produce & their market share. So profanely" Who gives a shit?"
If I had to make a choice between a Ford or Holden it would be a Ford because of my past experiences. However Holden may well be the "better" car. C'est la vie.

I like some of his work and agree with some of his ethos, but what an insufferable windbag

There are many photographers who are far more famous and successful than him using Canon equipment to produce amazing images. I myself found the Canon flash system to be just fine once I actually learned how to use it properly. I also found that the Nikon flash system is prone to the same problems as Canon's system if you don't know how to use it properly.

At least it was easy to understand what Weeks said!

Your having trouble understanding this post? I don't get what your are on about.

Having a better grasp of the English language would help make this a better read. A rather nonsensical piece of rubbish. If he doesn't like Canon gear then just buy something else without the silly immature ranting and just take pictures.

Don't particularly disagree with what he actually said - although it could have been said more clearly in about 2 paragraphs.

Reminds me of what an editor once told me: the difference between a first draft and a final draft is the final draft is half the length and twice the impact.

It's a rant but reading between the lines one can filter out some truths in there (at least from my experience with Canon and Nikon).

The Nikon TTL flash is better and has been for several generations of DSLRs.

The Nikon AF is better and has been for some time. (neither has been flawless)

The 5D3 AF and presumably the 1DX's is the first time that Canon has put a really reliable AF system in their DSLRs that works consistently well in low light and tracking motion. It was about time. Its that good. The others were capable and one could get really good results with them but they were not as consistent and were frustrating to use at times.

The 5D3 is a huge improvement in all areas (except still image quality) and what Canon AF performance should have been for the past 4-5 years.

Whether the TTL flash works better I have no clue, I have yet to test it out.

He didnt mention it but the D800/E whips all DSLRs in pure Image Quality. That is fact. Not that the Canon's is bad, but the D800 is better than anything else out there (IQ only).

However, I though about switching but Im loving the 5D3! (and 1DS3 still!)

Clearly the guy has accumulated quite a load of frustration so I understand him dumping Canon, but why didn't he switch sooner? Can't be good for his health to have waited for so long, if I were him I would book a visit to the GP for some tests...

It would not require much skill as a photographer to make that happen.
