Looks like my old 1D Mk2 is finally obsolete... now that you can shoot 60 fps at 8 Mpix

Looks to me like a tweaked 1D-X . I wonder where this leaves the C300.

Leaves it below the C500, which was also announced.

That's not what I mean.

As it stands now, the C300 appears to be inferior to the 1D-c, yet priced higher. Unless I am missing something about the C300, this would seem to be a problem.

C300 is for those who only need 1080p capture, but it has a lot of other features such as built-in ND filters that would be very useful to guys who shoot only video.

This thing is $15,000, hard to justify unless you do a lot of videos.

...Which is almost the entire point of the camera.

So instead of capturing the right moment you can just film the action now and choose the right frame afterwards?

Interesting they chose 18mp when they clearly stated that 22mp of the 5diii was for video quality....

But it looks cool. I suspect it will do well if the quality is there.

hmmm..I love the idea of 4k in such a small body with a camera you could also shoot great stills on if need be. While a lot of you guys scoff at the price, this is still 5k less than suggested retail for the Red One from several years ago (pre canon price hike) and is smaller than any other 4k camera I've been able to play with. then Again 4k at 8bit 4-2-2 is...well...why are you shooting 4k? It will probably look great conformed to 1080p but not sure about such a low quality signal for 4k. I wish it would let you do at least 10bit 1080 if not 10bit 1080 4-4-4. But this is a photography forum so now I'm just speaking dutch.

"Unlike the C300, the EOS-1D C does not offer zebra striping or peaking focus aids, which the company sees as being more important in single-person operated documentary settings, rather than the rig-and-crew situations it expects the 1D C to be used in."

Wow insanity! And what about for all the times it won't be used in rig-and-crew? Why ever leave out such trivial things?? EVen magic lantern hackers were able to add that stuff in without even proper programming docs or any help without issue. Why should it be used rig and crew more than the C300?

AND why the frack did they NOT put those two things plus 1.6x crop video in the 5D3 which they then admit will often be used as single-person operated??

They just make no sense!

They just make no sense in their actions. It just seems like it's run by marketing guys who don't use cameras themselves and just randomly try to find way to segment products so their business presentations sound impressive.

Do they not read how badly they are getting blasted all over movie filming boards about leaving those basic little things out?

Why?

Just such minor little changes from their marketing department and they could get a 180 degree difference response to their products (changes that really don't even add any cost to product production at all). Enough with the silly segmentation and games playing already. Just deliver and rule.

Why would 4:2:2 be any worse for 4k than for 2k though? It's the same exact scenario. 10bit would help a lot though, give some room for grading. It's pretty easy to make the 8bit stuff posterize band.
