Hmm Canon is getting eviscerated over this on the video forums (believe me the movie guys overall are way fiercer critics than stills photographers, they are very blunt and don't wait around), far more than I expected. Although as I posted above some is about zebra/peaking (among other things) for 1DC and much of it is about those plus 1.6x sharp 1920x1080 crop for 5D3, they do seem to be getting killed for that by the serious video/movie guys. Some of the stuff would've been so trivial to add I just don't get Canon marketing or management. Some of that stuff, maybe all, could actually still be added back in with new firmware.

Have a link to said evisceration? I'd be interested to have a read.
Either way, people are so entitled. How dare Canon mistreat them like this. Good thing their current cameras will work just fine - as well as all the fine cameras other manufacturers are making. At WORST this is just an irrelevant product. I wish I had a dollar for every irrelevant photo product that is currently on the market. (Is Pentax even still in business??)
Regardless, I find it curious that people expect every single thing Canon releases to be revolutionary, game changing, life changing, an almost holy experience. Anything less and people start foaming at the mouth with rage.
I just would like to know where we will actually see 4K material?
you won't see a difference in the movie theater.
...and if you are wandering; i did see a 4K setup, in a theater, showing 4K material side by side 2K material..... and i could walk up to the screen to look closely. (this was 1 1/2 years ago).

just go to any video forum discussing it, even the canon rumors video thread itself has a lot of people going harsh on it, harsher than I expected, eoshd site, etc.
as for the 5D3 missing zebra stripes/focus peaking pretty much every serious video review has griped on that, from P.B. and on and almost all have mentioned a bit about softness and many the missing crop mode, it's probably harder to find a review that doesn't get on that stuff than not
some of the griping is probably a bit over the top, but there are plenty of very legitimate points too

where is a tricky point for the moment, 4k monitors maybe start popping up in homes in a year or so though
some movie theaters have them already, there should be a difference if fed 4k footage (most movies sent to 4k projects are 2k feeds though)
an ipad 2 vs ipad new photo display is sort of the difference, pretty noticeable
i guess you can downscale it for a truly crazy sharp and aliasing free 2k for display for now though
Skibum5 ... the interesting part is that theaters use perforated screen .... kind of defeats the purpose.
We were told what to look for and it was hard to see a difference..... even in skin tones.
The film had a simulated old wedding scene in Europe. so plenty of white dresses and vivid colors.

So instead of capturing the right moment you can just film the action now and choose the right frame afterwards?
Yep and for certain events where timing the capture is almost impossible this would be a godsend. 24fps is a lot better than 12fps and 8MP is good enough for an A3+ print.

They just make no sense in their actions. It just seems like it's run by marketing guys who don't use cameras themselves and just randomly try to find way to segment products so their business presentations sound impressive.
Just such minor little changes from their marketing department and they could get a 180 degree difference response to their products (changes that really don't even add any cost to product production at all).
Enough with the silly segmentation and games playing already. Just deliver and rule.
Don't we all already tired of these paper releases? Where is superetele lenses they are released last year? Where is 200-400L for example? Where is 5D3/1Dx in stores? Canon just changing in stores availability dates and releasing new things, you will see in 5 years maybe

Looks like my old 1D Mk2 is finally obsolete... now that you can shoot 60 fps at 8 Mpix
I can't imagine trying to choose the right frame out of a series of 60 fps. Even 10 fps can be tough at times to pick the right frame. I guess really fast action could benefit from such a fast frame per second. However, I would think pulling out a poster for a film would be the real application for this technology. Otherwise, the rest of us wouldn't be interested in it.

Ya the camera looks sweet... then you read down ... and all the CINE people think it will suck... haha
wow
what a mess.

Rich homes perhaps. I don't see 4k TVs becoming anything other than niche products for the affluent anytime soon. There's simply no content available in 4k res and 1080p had only just penetrated the market fairly recently.
This the way to go for those who want to sorta future-proof their memories. Imagine how weddings filmed on 8mm look to us today? Imagine how 1080p will look like 4 decades from today.
