Couple from the Ranger game in Arlington TX with the D800......100% crops from upper deck in right field with a 70-200 2.8 VRII. Just a click on the autosharpen in PS elements, many could certainly do a better job in post than me, but I was pretty impressed from so far away...first picture at ISO 800, other two at ISO 100.
Just the camera default....and aperture priority, center weighted, AF-C normally. I made a resize/sharpen script to output to 2560 on the wide side but it still needs some interaction. Sometimes the image is already too sharp and sometimes the crop factor causes a step or two to be omitted. Still a pretty fast workflow though. I'd say starting from RAW adds another 2 or 3 minutes to the process (for each photo) but I'm slow about that anyway.
@James ... great shots SOOC! Also, sorry about the 105. I really wanted it but the 800 and the ridiculously priced grip drained the funds. Glad to see you got it sold.
As for the D800... I'm still amazed by the quality, cropping ability, AF speed and high ISO. Truly a joy to shoot with this camera.
Here's a couple with the D800 & Nikkor 200mm f/2. All shot on the Clinch River, Norris, TN. I tried a new LR4 preset I created on #2. Not sure if I like it yet or not?
