I can believe that the X-Pro 1 would rival the D700 quality since I was one of the early adopters of the X100 a year ago when I already had the D700. Image quality from both cameras are very comparable, but the D700 edged out in having usable files at much higher ISO's.
While I would love to get the X-Pro 1, I am willing to skip this model for the successor of the X-Pro 1 while holding onto the X100.
remember, no filter and 16MP. it just might deliver the goods.

It would seem to me that once the AF is further improved this line of cameras will gain significant interest in the broader market place. With this level of IQ, a good range of lenses and speedy AF I can't see much to complain about.
Perhaps another 12 - 24 months for this technology to mature a bit....
I handled one recently and i have mixed opinion. The issue is with the AF. The 60mm f/2.4 was almost useless for anything but well light studio shots. AF is ssssloooow. The 35mm in comparison is decent, but still slow. The image quality is fantastic, with superb color and tones. My personal opnion is that the high iso capabilities are being exaggerated, upto 3200 is fine but falls apart after that. I wish I saved the images but unfortunately deleted them by mistake. Wait for real world samples but if you are expecting D700 performance you are going to be dissappointed.

I hope you're right. Will be great to get some new iterations sooner rather than later. A slightly smaller body and faster AF, job done.
you really want something thst you can handle. not a soap on rope compact. i little size and weight is nice, believe me. i put the RRS L on my X10 and that gave a whole new feeling and made it more usable.
I'm interested in the X-Pro1 from the perspective of a 3rd party lens user. I use film Leica cameras & lenses but the Leica digitals are not reliable. Provided the Leica M adapter that's due in the fall supports usable manual focus I'll be getting an X-Pro1 then and selling my Fuji S5 dSLR. Fuji have great sensors; the one in the S5 produces amazing skin tones.
Thanks for posting this. The X-pro1 wasn't even on my radar. But now it is. One has to wonder what a full frame sensor using this technology would look like?
from the all test and samples I"ve seen the wide angle really does not seem that sharp... the 50 is just normal the long lens is the only one that's really good

No problem. Same here really. When it was first announced I was very interested because of Fuji's claims about the superb resolution but so many people were telli me it was all BS and that it would never come close to full frame as far as IQ is concerned. Many weeks passed and I kinda forgot about the X-Pro1' but last night thought i'd have another look and find out if it had been released already.
Reading through the numerous reviews, especially WhatDigitalCamera's review has got me really excited about this camera, and seeing some sample images has boosted my interest levels. I don't know why Canon and Nikon don't make sure their sample images are good quality like the ones I've seen from this Fuji. They have been far superior to the sample images I have seen from the new Nikon and Canon bodies that are coming shortly, but they are known for posting crappy sample images.

I had a good long play with the camera at Focus on Imaging and took some test shots and have to say I was very impressed with this camera. Of all the cameras I saw there that was the one that I was taken with (apart from the D4) As I already own a D700 and D5100 I'd prefer something small as a carry around camera but I'd certainly consider one if I didn't have my DSLR's. If they bring out a smaller mirrorless version with the same sensor I'd think about getting one and those prime lenses.
yup i had my friends d60 and i put it down beside my d700 16/35 vr with an l plate and remembered why i bought an x100 a year ago...
