p.1 #1 · X-Pro1! Am I the only one...

...getting slightly aroused by the image quality from the X-Pro1 that is now being touted about the interweb.

Fuji claimed the sensor would rival full frame and I remember seeing lots of discussions about this with people saying that was a ridiculous claim, but I've read plenty of reviews now saying that Fuji have pulled it off and that the IQ easily competes and often exceeds that of of the D700 and 5D mk2.

The biggest concern for me with this camera was the potentially poor AF but according to the reviews this area has been much improved over the X100, although it does still appear to be a little sluggish but much more useable now.

I had a play with the NEX-7 today and was very very impressed indeed, but it's clear that the IQ from the X-Pro1 will be superior and at the end of the day, ultimately my priority is IQ. Whilst the Sony does have some very nice creative features I think the Fuji would get my money. Just a shame there's no way to stick my Nikon glass on the Fuji.

What do you guys think about the Fuji? With it's pretty darn incredible IQ do any of you Nikonians see this as an addition to your Nikon kit bags, maybe as a second body?

Check out this verdict from WhatDigitalCamera. Speaks for itself with a 20/20 score for IQ and a gold award overall. There are regular remarks such as 'astounding image quality'! I'm excited!

The early samples are certainly looking D700 quality to me, when it comes to high ISO performance, and perhaps even better above ISO6400. I had a chance to use the camera at CES, and it was a very nice feeling piece of hardware, and the hybrid viewfinder is the real killer feature.

Unlike the NEX system, the Fuji system's lenses are actually small AND large aperture. Not to mention that Fuji already has an extensive schedule of lenses for release over the next two years, focusing on high-quality optics that Sony has largely ignored.

Frankly, after using the XPro1, the NEX-7 felt like a bit of a cheap toy. The lack of shutter lag was very impressive, but the Fuji's controls and menus were actually more ergonomic and easier to use.

A friend of mine has the Xpro1 on order, and I'll be excited to really put it through its' paces when the time arrives.

I have the D4 coming soon but still want a smaller camera (compared to my D7000 and of course D4) to have as a 'go everywhere' camera. I was tempted by the Sony after playing with it today, but the X-Pro1 has really got my attention now. I won't be in a rush though so will wait to see the real world views and see what the price does over the months to come.

At $1700.00 for the body only, I believe I'd go for a used D700 if I needed a second body. Just my 2 cents.

The price is steep, but I think worth it. If I didn't have a D7000 as my second/backup I would consider a D700 but it's a big body. I'm looking for a go everywhere camera. Point me in the direction of a camera that is small enough to go everywhere and delivers full frame IQ. X-Pro1 is the only one that can deliver this.

I think you're right though. Perhaps the Fuji should be viewed as a third body....?

Not that I'm aware of. Will need to add some Fujinon glass which certainly is a big factor to consider.

I have to say that I'm astonished by the images I've seen from this camera. I didn't expect anything near this level of quality; Fuji have really blown me away. Has anyone seen the cnet asia review? Check the ISO comparison; The X-Pro1 completely trounces the NEX-5n! I'm reconsidering this system as a lighter kit alternative.

Watch the review on digitalrev TV and check out the high iso images compared to the 5d mk2. It completely spanks the Canon and the image at 12800 looks amazing.

The resolution and sharpness produced by this camera looks just phenomenal.

I had a good long play with the camera at Focus on Imaging and took some test shots and have to say I was very impressed with this camera. Of all the cameras I saw there that was the one that I was taken with (apart from the D4) As I already own a D700 and D5100 I'd prefer something small as a carry around camera but I'd certainly consider one if I didn't have my DSLR's. If they bring out a smaller mirrorless version with the same sensor I'd think about getting one and those prime lenses.

Very encouraging to hear from those who have had hands on with this camera all saying how good it was. Can't wait to have a go with this myself.

I considered selling my X100 and buying this to "upgrade" as my travel kit....But honestly the X100 does so well now that I learned how to work with it. Not to mention more than 75% of the shots I take that aren't from my DSLR are on my iPhone which leads me to believe the XPro1 won't be utilized as much as I would like anyway.

the X100 was a nice "proof of concept" product. kinda limited though. now the real thing is finally showing up. if the do a 2.8 zoom in a usable range i'll put down for it. for now i'll let it mature just a bit.

Astonishing. I can't quite believe this camera is capable of such great images.

I can believe that the X-Pro 1 would rival the D700 quality since I was one of the early adopters of the X100 a year ago when I already had the D700. Image quality from both cameras are very comparable, but the D700 edged out in having usable files at much higher ISO's.

While I would love to get the X-Pro 1, I am willing to skip this model for the successor of the X-Pro 1 while holding onto the X100.

I'm on a waitlist for the D800 and have held on to my 14-24 and Nikon 85 1.4D but right now I do not even own a Nikon body. I had made a decision to donwsize my gear and travel light and shoot less. As a result I purchased a used Fuji X100 off of the buy/sell here on FM and I am blown away by the image quality and the awesome size of camera. Sure it has it's limits in terms of focal length and it's a little quirky to use at times but the size of the camera and amazing image quality more than make up for it. Fuji is on to something with these small bodies and excellent sensors.
Based on what the X100 is delivering I will be checking out the X-1 Pro once it is more available.

It would seem to me that once the AF is further improved this line of cameras will gain significant interest in the broader market place. With this level of IQ, a good range of lenses and speedy AF I can't see much to complain about.

Perhaps another 12 - 24 months for this technology to mature a bit....
