Yeah, when you're stopped down, it can be difficult since the subtler contrast changes between in and out of focus are harder for the camera to display something that makes sense to your eye. If you want to constantly play with your peaking settings, some would probably advocate changing them depending on your intended field of focus. I find it easier to look for subtler changes in the peaking intensity around key areas of what I want to be sharply in focus. When in doubt, though, I use the magnified view if there's time, or do some focus bracketing around where I'm seeing the strongest peaking.

I don't believe so, Jim. I think I saw someone wishing for that in a firmware fix on another site. You can write metadata on import to a sidecar (see Adobe's explanation) and you can write metadata on export, but it doesn't look like Sony offers it from the camera.

EXIF, by the way, isn't easily editable, nor should it be, but it's not the metadata file that typically carries the copyright information, as I understand it.

1) hold down unlabeled button next to the shutter for three seconds to lock the iso wheel.
2) i never hang any of my cameras from any kind of strap. it's still super annoying there should be a manual evf/lcd switch on the camera. i often have the evf activate when i shoot from the waist.
3) only by changing shooting mode (e.g. it controls shutter speed in S mode).

Tried #1, but seems doesn't lock the ISO. Guess its time for reading manual

try for longer, it works fine for me.

also, you don't need to go into the manual to change shooting mode. your can program a bunch of different buttons to call up the shoot mode "wheel".

There is a setting in the menu that lets you select what dials are locked when the Fn button is held.
•All
•Control Wheel
•Off
It's near the top

The translation's tough to get through, but the lens looks pretty good. Seems to keep up with the zm 35 at f2 and f8. I think SAR said this was going to sell for 600 euros. If this build quality is reasonable, it might be worth it...

In case anyone's interested, Picturecode just released its new "next generation" raw converter, called "Photo Ninja," which supports the NEX 7. FYI, Picturecode is the developer of Noise Ninja.

http://www.picturecode.com/index.php

It seems like most of the forum participants are wedded to Lightroom, but just like I like to try out different cameras and lenses, I also like to try different raw converters. I'll be downloading this and giving it a try later this week.

And, I have no affiliation with Picturecode whatsoever.

Was needing a little direction in getting the most out of Corner Fix.Where can one go to get lens profiles? Any other suggestions would be helpful. To me it is kind of a hard program to work with.

Jim, haven't try Cornerfix yet, can't help you

Do you guys really feel NEX is easy to do manual focus?

I tried setting suggested here, but seem no hope for me to get correct focus with 35cron and 35biogon at f2, not to say any lens at f5.6. My eye can't see DOF at f5.6 correctly and peaking treat everything is in focus. I am trying to avoid hit Magnification button here. I even wish they can include focus confirmation dot here to help.

Anybody else with NEX echo my experience?

I think Nex is the currently best platform for manual focus. You can dial down the peaking level or use magnification.

Jim, you raise a point I have myself raised. As profiles are free, I thought somebody (I tried to suggest this to Jorge Torralba, buthe didn't answer) would host a library of CornerFix profiles. It is a no-brainer IMHO. I would contribute the ones I have.
Otherwise, it is not at all that hard to create a profile, once you have the hang of it. But, being techologically challenged, I needed some time. Others are better at it than me.

Why would you avoid magnification? It's essential to critical focus. With magnification, I can achieve wide open proper focus on my CV 35/1.2 and 50/1.1

It is a extra step to keep me away freezing the moment, speed, composition. I just want confirm it with other user here.
As Sebboh is doing fine, I thought I might miss something. I guess just need more practice.

It really doesn't take that long. For me, it's an extra step to keep me away from snap-shotitis. In other words it's helpful in composition.

It really depends on what you are shooting. If I just shoot around instead of portrait, I don't even need any sony's Focus aid. Snap shotitis doesn't need speed or accuracy.

Magnification works fine for portraiture in my experience.

I have to use focus magnification if I want a good keeper rate. Otherwise, I just mount an AF lens (24/1.8, Sig 30, or Sony 50). I do not have much luck using un-magnified focus peaking alone.
