I think I may have lucked out and grabbed the last unit in stock from Canoga camera. When I ordered it, it showed in stock, but out of stock right there after.
We shall see. Really looking forward to the new 85/1.8G!
I'm amazed at how well the 1.8 hold up in the 100% crops. The Sigma almost looks blown out on the top of the bus, and the Nikon bokeh looks great. This might be my next lens.
Bokeh seems to be better with the Nikon, at least with the grass background. That's a bit surprising considering Sigma's success with the bokeh of their 50mm, but then that is a huge lens, at least for being a 50/1.4.

Looks really good and seems to me to be much sharper than the older 1.8D. I also generally like the bokeh it produces. Please let us see more samples!
Btw. I'm on waiting list for this lens here at local camera store in Iceland, it hasn't yet arrived here in the middle of the pond.
Slower AF than the D- version and not much sharper either....hmmm I`m keeping my D :-).

Slower over the full focus range. Faster in minimum adjustment and better lock-on with less hunting.
The AFS is visible sharper than the AF shot wide open (at least my copies)
For people who have this lens has anyone tested the focus repeatability wide open? This is my main criticism of the sigma, wide open at portrait distances it will misfocus at least 25% of the frames.

Would it not be more fair to compare the Sigma at F/1.8 rather than wide open?

Boshek, Thanks for the tip. I have ordered my copy and I spoke with the folks at ephotocraft on the phone to confirm the lens is in stock. They were very helpful and pleasant to deal with.
I am attending a photo show this weekend and I am thinking about selling my 85mm 1.8, what is a good price to get for this lens? I am thinking about purchasing the 85 1.4 G. My other thought is to keep the 85 1.8D as backup, thinking back on all the Nikon lenses I sold - I feel sorry I didn't hold on to some of them

No doubt! I just called and snagged the last one in stock.
After ordering from Canoga Camera yesterday, they told me it wasn't actually in stock (even though it stated it was when I ordered it.) Needless to say, I just cancelled that order....

Perhaps for a totally 'fair' test but I'm not sure it would make any difference at all in my experience with it.
I just thought the DOF would be significantly different and that might make a difference if something was in the range of acceptable focus or not. It is "good" to hear some feedback on the Sigma 85mm even if it is not positive. I wonder if this is an issue with all of the Sigma 85mm lenses? If so, I feel even better having ordered the Nikon lens.
