Thanks! Glad to hear you are having fun with the EOStuff now. Personally I had my first EOSfun only since digital, the D30 actually. When I was a teenager of 12, my first real photofun was Exakta fun. As a newspaper boy I saved all my money to buy an SLR. The Exakta was the best I could afford, rapidly followed the same year by Rolleiflexes. The SL35 in it's year of launch and a few months later I discovered my true love for medium format and bought a young second hand TLR Planar 3.5F model 4. Someone with knowledge from the photoindustry should now be able to find out my real age ...Show more →
You are younger than I am, but that's all I'm going to say!
My first EOSfun was film, but my first DSLR was also a D30.

I don't think anyone is accusing him of not being a nice guy. But the quality of the rumors on his site leaves much to be desired, esp. when compared to other sites like Nikonrumors and SonyAlphaRumors...
As for the quality of the rumors, perhaps it's not his fault. Maybe Canon is just better at locking down NDAs or enforcing embargos. Or maybe he just doesn't have the insider contacts the other sites have. Whatever the cause, the bottom line is his rumors are a mess.

Let me tell you that the level of secrecy in Canon is very high. The person that headed up Canon's lens design group for 20 years said the first he knew of the cine lenses announced with the 4K video camera, was the day it was announced to the public. The whole lens design for these was only known at the very highest levels and this guy is pretty darn high up the food chain. We are contracted to Canon Japan and we are not allowed most stuff we need from them as we are not lifers, ie people who join Canon Japan for life; we may leave and tell their secrets. So even amongst divisions in Canon Japan their are a great many secrets. Other than those directly working on the 5D replacement only a handful would be privy to the specs....Show more →
Actually, this level of secrecy in Canon only happened around 2006 to 2007. Before that, leaks about Canon technology abounded and were almost always 100% accurate. Imagine detailed product leaks about 3 to 4 months before actual release.
All that evaporated after DPReview hammered various manufacturers for not coming down hard on websites that did not uphold NDA. This was also around the period of time when the D3/D300 were released. In fact, there were some RUMORS about someone high up in Canon ladder jumping ship and giving away lots of Canon secrets because he was disappointed with the way he was treated. Oh well...

That's an off-topic comment of tremendous proportion, and not sure what place it has in this thread. Globalization is an incredibly complex issue in which both economic and sociological impacts cannot be casually ignored; viewing social issues primarily through a Western lens will lead to distortion of realities, to be sure. However 'bad' you consider working or living conditions to be at Foxconn, it would be my 'guess' that every worker is there of their own free will, and does not want to lose their job for any reason. Singling out Apple (or even the tech industry) as some sort of demon is misguided, at best; the U.S.--and the world, for that matter--wants cheap stuff, and is becoming (necessarily?) incapable of producing cheap 'stuff'. China long ago chose to fill a void that we, ourselves created, out of our own economic success.
We can roll with it or let it roll on by, but either way, much of the world is changing. Fast....Show more →
Not to really get into this again, but I should first briefly publicly state that it is true that it's not fair to single out Apple when a dozen other big players (at least some divisions of Sony, already I don't think Canon or Nikon) and players internal to China too are doing the same and it is a complex issue which I far oversimplified.
That said the alternate view above is also oversimplified as well and surely a bit overly rose-tinted glasses and excusatory in view.
Anyway as I said later, it's a complicated subject, don't listen to what either of us wrote, go read about it in detail from many sources and points of view.
