p.27 #1 · 5Dx in the wild?

yeah we did

but i thought i should at least publicly say that i was wrong to have singled Apple out alone (although I wasn't really meaning too, they just happened to be the company being discussed, but it did leave a very unbalanced impression) when others are also doing the same stuff (although some reports suggest that Apple is amongst the worst of the bunch at trying to anything at all about it, should we get to pay $20 or apple make a small bit less insanely great profit margin on the backs of all that? are not they in the strongest position of the companies to try to do at least a little? anyway it is complex and they are not alone, although at least half of the others mentioned appear to try harder)

but if you don't want that, then hey, I can delete it

If you say something bad about Apple, they will get you in your sleep.

Apologies in advance for the OT reply...

skibum5, I do appreciate your public candor, and I'm sorry for questioning your bringing it back to the fore. But, I am puzzled by how this seems to have turned into an 'Apple' thing (though I do realize the media's part in it); I guess I'll have to go back and read my original post, but when I was typing my response, the substance of it really had little to do with Apple or Foxconn or any other corporate entity (or even industry, for that matter). My glasses aren't actually as rose-colored as you suggest (I know, it's hard to believe ), and I fully acknowledge that bad things are going on, all over the world. Over-simplifying and generalizing on forums like these runs rampant, and it is sometimes hard to read between the lines, especially for heady subjects like globalization.

I was merely suggesting that we all view things based upon our own experiential and cultural perspectives. Anyone listening to either you or I, Fox or NPR or BBC (or any other person/entity who are not those people in question), are likely to receive a subjective viewpoint that may or may not represent the realities of the people in question. China and the East have chosen a path, and despite how much better things could be, conditions are arguably better (for the masses) than they were 20 or 30 years ago, and undoubtedly better than the conditions in Africa, a continent that continues to be left behind in many, many ways. Academics, political scientists, economists and sociologists alike continue to argue over the cost/benefit of globalization, and I'd guess that none of us are likely to provide further clarity on the issues, although they are certainly worthy conversations to have.

I'm out, if someone would really like to continue the discourse, perhaps we should start a 'Globalization' thread over in Forum & Miscellaneous.

Regards,

Jeff

Reanimated

I still guess, its not a 5D whatever, but the 5D/7D merge. :-)

Ralph - I can't see a 5D/7D merge.

The 7D is about £1000 in the UK.

The 1Dx will be £5300 at launch.

There is a big gap in the middle for a FF 5D3/X (whatever the name may be) somewhere between £2800 & £3200.

It is about 1200 € here in germany compared to 1700 € of 5D MK II (2500 when introduced)
Why not merging it and selling it for about 2.300? They already did that with 1Ds MK III/1D MK IV. The gap will become smaller.

Thxs. So I still do not have to fear anything. Great picture. But the ISO does not look better to me than same in 3 years old 5D II ...

If thats a 100% crop then its pretty clean for ISO 6400 on a 36mp body...

Of course it is a higher one. But the question here is again, if it is a crop or not. If it is none, it is not that convincing to me. But of course there might be some calculated noise to enhance the dramatic appeal of the picture.

Thats unlikely to be a 100 per cent crop, look at the perspective on the lights in the background. If it IS a 100 per cent crop then that would be extraordinarily good at very high ISO!
