Would have to wait on "accuracy" I guess, as simple speed isn't everything. Might almost be tempted to wait for a second generation body if the AF isn't good, and the EVF is below average... But on the other hand, I might just start the system and invest in the glass if they are promising more lenses like 14/1.4 and a 28mm pancake, as well as other bodies. Thanks for the link.
I agree, Fuji has explicitly said it is better than the X100. I am fine with the speed as long as it is more accurate.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you may have had a lemon to a certain degree. The lens on my X100 is the best 35/2 equiv. lens I have ever used on the APS format. It really makes me feel like I'm using a 1K+ quality lens and getting the camera for free.
I did have a lemon - mine had the sticky aperture problem and had the lens assembly replaced. Both the original and replacement lens assemblies performed the same near as I can tell. I didn't get the feeling I was using a free camera with a thousand dollar lens attached.
Like I said, it wasn't horrible. Maybe my expectations were higher than they ought to have been. Maybe if my lens assembly hadn't succumbed to the sticky aperture problem while on a three week trip I'd think even more kindly of it.
The NEX with the kit lens at middle focal lengths performed every bit as good but was way, way, more responsive. Not as pretty to look at, and not a conversation piece for subjects to take interest, but overall it did handle better which is not something I expected to be honest.
$2300 with a lens makes it a no go for me. It's a crop sensor camera, that's sure to have some growing pains. The latest Fuji and Sony APS-C cameras are making me appreciate my 5DII even more.

Kodak made digital cameras no one wants to buy. Nothing innovative about them. What is strange is they can make good sensors.
If I'm not mistaken, they were the first to have the balls to remove the AA filter, and that was on a FF camera that had the highest resolution at the time. Isn't that innovation?

+1000
I also find AF speed largely irrelevant, I dont mind waiting an extra split second as long as I'm confident the damn thing will do what it's supposed to do.
The only AF system, in fact the only focusing solution I was 100% happy with was the active IR on the Hexar AF, and this was not particularly fast. But when you half pressed the button you knew, come rain hail or storm, that the camera had focused in the centre of the image regardless if it was pitch black or the scene had no contrast. Thats more than I can say for any other camera, including $7k DSLRs.
I dont know why nobody makes active IR cameras anymore, even some polaroids used to have it.

To be honest, I have to say I feel the same way about my Sony A900. The Fuji XP1 sure is enticing though.
That is high but, the NEX 7 is $1200 with the 24mm Zeiss another $1000 = $2200 Fuji is using this as their price point. Now we have to weigh all the pluses and minus's and see if either one of them are worth it.

Kinda what i was thinking. Is this camera really as good as a 5D Mark II? Which you can pick up for around $1700-$1800

Filter pack decisions are usually the decision of the camera maker, more than the sensor maker, I'd imagine. Either way, as Joakim just mentioned in another thread, removing an AA filter doesn't actually increase resolution, technically, but that's a topic for an entirely new thread. link
I'd imagine the real advantage of no AA on the new Fuji is so astigmatism isn't increased at the periphery of the sensor.

That's amazing considering how, on Flickr, someone did some comparisons against the Leica X1 and the Fuji X100 could go toe to toe with it. The Leica contains a 24/2.8 Elmarit.

To me, this is about the juggling of size vs. IQ, and you have to pay more for great IQ in a smaller package. That being said, since this camera is M9 sized, rather than m4/3 or NEX sized, and it doesn't have an M9 sized sensor, I'm not sure the camera is worth it to me at this price. I'd probably rather have a NEX for most things and either an A900 or medium format for when size is less of an issue.
Granted, I'd bet Fuji will release smaller, cheaper cameras in the future that accept these new lenses.

I will be very surprised if the the 14mm lens is f/1.4. Leica M of course makes a 21mm f/1.4, but a 14mm that fast? Seems like that would require quite the major breakthrough for a lens that wide to be that fast. For now my guess is that someone misread 1:4 and 1.4 and the lens will really be f/4. If so that is a bit disappointing. I was hoping this lens would be f/2.8, but it isn't a huge deal for me if it has good wide open performance. I would almost exclusively use a lens that wide stopped down to at least f/4 anyway.

That's me basically. I use an A900 for the heavy lifting and also have something smaller for everything else...X100, NEX, etc. I was sort of hoping against hope this Fuji XP1 might replace both but I don't see that working. It's enough larger with lens than the X100 that I don't think I would take it everywhere like I do with the X100 and the IQ is not going to match the A900.when absolute resolving power is considered. But that's just logic. Who knows what I will end up doing when presented with a pre-order screen.

It was actually stated by Fuji's Kayce Baker so it's probably correct re the 1.4. Probably will rely heavily on software corrections is my bet.

I meant compact P&S cameras where they make the money. As I said they can make superb sensors and have been supplying MF sensors for a long time.

Looking at the few high ISO XP1 images that appeared on Flickr and comparing them to similar 5DMKii images, I am of the mind that this camera will match or even outdo some FF cameras as far as sharpness and color are concerned.
I know it was a bold statement when Fuji made it and I know it is still bold based on such limited information, however, when I bought my 5DMKii body new it cost me about $2500 US. This is $1700. For that quality at high ISOs i think it is worth it if most of the other features I need work well.
We have to remember that this is not a DSLR.
When people want a smaller car and they have a Family station wagon, they may pay more for the two-seat sports car. And it may be less functional being that it has less space and things of that nature. However, there is still a market for expensive sports cars that are less functional. This camera is the sports car of cameras. Less functional than the big DSLRs in some respects but very much marketable. If it wasn't this forum wouldn't be 30 some odd pages deep in the forum! And it is less than many large FF cameras....

Probably the NEX-5N could go toe to to with the X1 at 24mm with the kit zoom, for those sorts of subjects although it would be hindered by the kit zoom's max aperture. Would the comparison had been so even if we were looking at landscape shots focussed at infinity at f/5.6 or f/8? Dunno.
Re: price...yah, I'm not sure, looking at the size and price tag I'm quite as guns go as I was...nex with contax g and 5d2 with l ... This could replace one, and at wide the price..maybe not.
