Foundations workshop is pretty much completely unique to anything in the industry. Ask anyone who has been, and who can explain it, and you'll definitely be interested in going even at that price. I know several people who've been and it's a very altering experience from what they've all said.

So this is slightly off topic but not completely ... how much of an "off" season do you all get?

Nope. There isn't anyone out there that would make me want to spend $200 let alone $2000 or more just to hear them speak or watch them do a "live shoot". I don't think there is anyone that knows more than me in the areas that matter most. I already know how to be treat my clients. What's a workshop going to teach me that I don't already know when it comes to treating people? What about the technical side of photography? For me, if there is an image I love from a photographer I can look at it and within a minute figure out how it was done. So what will a workshop teach about technique that I can't learn from a glance at an image on their website? And finally, running a business. If you don't know how to balance your books and how to market yourself on your own then you have no business being in business. Yes we all need a little help from time to time. And yes, we can learn things from others. But shouldn't it be given free like on a place such as on a forum like fredmiranda.com? Charging fellow professionals to teach what they "think" makes them great is a bit egocentric.

Honestly, I would love to hear just one earth-shattering, eye-opening, weak-in-the-knees epiphanies that ANYONE has learned at one of these "workshops". Just curious.

I learned that you can always learn more. If you don't think you can't learn more then you must be the god/guru/sensei of photography.

Personally, I think photography is so much more than just looking at a picture and reverse engineering it. It's the thought process behind it. Anybody can take a picture and copy it... but trying to coming up with the ideas and vision so much more challenging and what makes you unique.

Also, workshops aren't just about learning... it's also about making friendships and connections with other photographers... (which I made a ton from attending Genesis 2011)

I hope I never feel like I can't learn anymore... the day I do, I'll give up photography and pick up another passion.

Well that's money well spent.

Personally, I think photography is so much more than just looking at a picture and reverse engineering it. It's the thought process behind it. Anybody can take a picture and copy it... but trying to coming up with the ideas and vision so much more challenging and what makes you unique.

And you learned how to be creative from a workshop? Shouldn't that be part of who you are naturally? You can't learn to be creative. You either are or you are not.

Also, workshops aren't just about learning... it's also about making friendships and connections with other photographers.

That's what facebook if for. And it's free
