p.1 #1Nikon D800 pictures..almost here??
just saw post on Nikonrumors on the Nikon D800. They seem pretty sure of themselves on this one. Specs are posted as well. 36 MP in a smaller lighter body than D700...

If those images are real is the grip part of the body or removeable you reckon?

Kinda looks like they cobbled it up.

However, I'll keep my 700's and pass on this. Don't care for a smaller camera nor the layout..

Nikon rumors is generally pretty darn accurate in their rumor mongering.

I gotta say though, there's plenty iffy about those images. The red swoosh is different than all the other Nikons, the PC port cover is the old style from the D300 not the style of the D700. And the battery grip looks photoshopped in. It's blurry compared to the rest of the camera.

Granted this could be a pre-production prototype and the grip could be shopped in just to show how it 'will look'. I do hope it's not much smaller than the D700, lighter would be nice yes.

It looks a bit small and flimsy to be the D800. I'd believe it is the D400 sooner than the D800.

If that is indeed an actual image of the D800, then it is roughly the same size as a D7k. Perhaps a bit taller to accommodate the larger prism.

I'm sure a lot of folks won't like the smaller size but for my purposes, this would be the answer to my dreams.

Looks like the grip is blurry because of DOF. There is enough differences and updates that seem logical that the shot looks quite real. I hope it's real anyway. It would be exciting to have a smaller full frame body with that sort of image quality --- a real landscape photographer's dream camera.

Disappointing that they are taking the camera in a new direction but if it would have had specs similar to the 1Dx at 1/2 the price it sure would have been nice.

The red swoosh is similar to the one on the D5100. A new design direction perhaps - not one I particular like, not that it matters.

Also take a look at the top dial - 4 buttons, a new one added for BKT. Looks pretty real to me, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

They are usually pretty accurate when it gets to within a few weeks of the release, where we might very well be with the D800. In that period, lots of folks in the supply chain, service network etc get the info so it will leak out. Their longer term predictions (i.e. 6 months out) have usually been laughable. I.e. they had no clue that the D3 was FX, or that the D700 was coming at all, or what the D7000 specs were, even remotely.

New Nikon news is always fun to read, but I love my D700 way too much to even think of buying anything else at this point.

...and the D3x, and D7000, and D5000, and D5100, etc...

They will also put up actual "rumors", and state that they have nothing to back it up and it's just something a birdy told them. But almost every body, lens, or accessory Nikon has released in the last few years, Nikonrumors has laid out the leaked details and sometimes photos prior to the official announcement.

While I do find this update path odd for the D700, I have to say I believe this is our next FX body. And, IF... This thing can produce a 36mp image with ISO performance on par with the D700(or better), add in dual card slots, 1080p video, 100%vf, and most of the other pro body specs(AF as advertised, weather sealing, high fps, etc), there will be long lines waiting for one.

A few thoughts:
-What happend to the AF selector switch? Buried in menus now?
-I know I would accidentally start video recording everytime I go to swap modes. Couldn't they put that record button somewhere else?
-Yayyy! Dedicated Bracket button. Now that I'm used to not having one.
-Is it really any smaller than the D700? I know it looks like the area around the shutter mode knob/buttons is smaller tilting this assmebly to make room. But it seems that the VF housing is larger on the "D800", leaving less room beside it.
-Is this grip the MB-D10. It looks very similar. If it is the MB-D10, then I would venture to say this body isn't going to be noticably smaller or it wouldn't match up to the grip like this.

Interesting.

Looks like a mic by the flash sync cover, and is that a mic grille on the back, above the Live View doohickey, or a speaker perhaps? The AF-area mode selector has gone AWOL. And strangely, the zoom in and out buttons have switched positions.

My guess is that it's real.

Sorry no he didn't.
And if anyone wants to look through his "D700 replacement is coming posts" , let me know how long he's been saying the he's 99% sure the D700 replacement is coming next week. Yes, he'll get there eventually.

Just seems odd for the D700 replacement to have such a high pixel count. You'd think that it would be 18MP or something like that to keep the high ISO crown.

I guess we'll know a lot more in a couple of weeks.
