Yashica seems to be the poor man's zeiss. Sharp, low or no CA, good micro contrast, great colors. I wonder why they aren't more sought after? I guess it's a good thing they aren't - that keeps them as prices I can (usually) afford!

Very well built and pretty good looking too!

Hey Bif,you seem to have or tried majority of strtange/rare lenses on Earth.Have you come across Yashica ML 300/5.6 C (compact version without tripod)?

nope, not tried that one yet. Sounds cool tho! You thinking about getting one? The most compact 300 I've tried and still liked (

) was the Olympus Auto-T 300/4.5 Same one as this one but mine is selling for less!

Very nice lens! For 300mm I either want 4.5 or faster or I want a zoom! To me a prime 300 is kind of a waste at 5.6 unless it's APO or something like that. Probably a $100 zoom at 5.6 is going to give better results than the prime - for sure on µ4/3 IMO. Next up on my list after the Olympus 300/4.5 is the Canon FD 300/4.0L Or the fluorite version of the same if you can find it. The Canon is bigger and heavier than the Oly tho.

They only actually cost you anything if you keep them forever. In my case I seem to hang on to lenses for about a year and then sell them off - no matter how much I like it. There are a couple that I couldn't clean or repair which I suppose I'll keep forever and maybe two zooms that cover everything. But it's just too much fun to try out new lenses and like you my pockets aren't bottomless. So it's a never-ending rotation for me. I get bored using the same lenses all the time - even with the very best lenses!

I got the 300/5.6 ML C awhile back, my longest lens. It's no APO, but the build quality is very satisfying. As every fan of Yashica ML knows, resisting "just one more" is near fruitless, especially when the price is $130. A copy is available for that price on KEH.

I had a dream!!! about small lightweight 300-400 telephoto for my NEXes.I've tried several (Tamron 300/5.6,Nikon 300/3.5 IFED to point out the best),but they were either too soft or had too much CAs.Saw some samples from Oly 300/4.5- seemed that fringing was also an issue there,se ricordo bene.Found out that Yash 300/5.6 is pretty small,has 4m(!

) min foc dist but wanted to know if it has problems with fringing.

How about Canon FD 300/5.6? Is it a good lens?

I like that 300... Looks like a nice lens just judging from that one image. I sure hope you post more from it!

I noticed no one has posted anything from the Yashica ML 21mm... Someone from here (FM) sent me one for free just on the off chance I would get more use out of it than they. It arrived today and it looked so cool I just had to mount it and carry it around with me all day. It's quite nice!

I'll post some images in a bit...

We had some great pics from the 21 ML posted by an Alt regular (can't remember the name). The lens is quite rare versus the CZ D21. I think the quality/weight tradeoff between these two makes a tough choice. As for the 300/5.6 ML shot above, thanks for the compliment but I'm currently busy with the Leica 280/4. APO correction has its uses.
