However, I couldn't not respond to mpmendenhall's photos of my alma mater CalTech (BS '81 in Applied Physics). Great shots. I'm not usually a fisheye lens fan, but I really enjoyed the various fisheye shots from around campus. My favorite is the second fisheye shot, though I can't actually picture where that is (or maybe it is one of the buildings built since I left...).

Nice reflection shot!

The second fisheye image is a walkway looking on to the courtyard around Millikan library (to the right, not visible). Straight ahead (looking south) on the opposite side of the grass is Kellogg (where my office is), which would definitely have been there in '81.

@mpmendenhall: Ah. Thanks for the orientation. It has been too many years since I have done more than drive around the campus. I know where you mean now, though I had to look at some maps and google earth to get it back into my head , and it was definitely there in '81.

@contas: Thanks. I am definitely enjoying it and looking forward to learning it.

I rented this lens for a tour around Ireland a couple of years ago, thinking I would get it out of my system. It worked rather the other way around , though it took awhile to get the money together.

It is definitely going to take some learning. I tend to shoot longer than shorter, so even at 21/31mm this lens is on the wide side for my usual style. I have to think about perspective differently, and it seems like *everything* jumps into the background of my photos, compared to say my (previous favorite 105mm macro.

And even ignoring focal length differences, it seems to be *really* easy to saturate individual color channels with this lens. Red, most often, but I've done it with blue as well.

Is this a "macro" shot of a model Carsten?

Yes, it is quite a large model of the older versions of the Berliner Dom, housed inside the actual Berliner Dom, and standing perhaps 2.5m tall I was wondering how many would notice. Here is another:

Carsten - Very nice. Model shots are fun, but I like the stairwell shot with 21.

Thanks Markus! I had some fun poking my camera as deep as possible into the rather large models

I haven't seen (or heard) much from you lately. Have you done any photography recently?

The winter season is traditionally a time where I'm very lazy with photography, except maybe some family or people shots, which I usually don't post. But this gives me some time to post process photos from last year (a few thousand are waiting for me...) like these (all ZE 100):

Ulff, nice set and the last one is great. The light green lines make s the background very interesting.

That first one is beautiful, Markus! I don't recognize that wooden bridge; is that here in Berlin?

Thank you Joakim and Carsten! The wooden bridge is actually in Berlin: it's in Schlosspark Charlottenburg.

I was thinking about the comp of Joakims post, but in this case the "dont cut the hair" rule dont apply for me. I think it helps the composition in this case. I would possibly crop more on the right and low side but keep aspect ratio. Really like the shot and the tuned down BW handling.

Here's a cross-post from the NEX thread. Contax G21.
