Question for yall with Nikon or Sony FF. Can you Leitax a C/Y 35/50/85 1.4 to use for a D700/A900? I know you have to shave the 50 for nikon but theres nothing on the site about the 35/85.

You can't Leitax the C/Y 35/1.4. I know, because I asked David Llado about it and kept bothering him about it until he answered, and there is something different about the bayonet. The 50/1.7 works.

Hi Contas, how is Contax 645 80mm used on 5DII? - thru adapter or modified mount? I know it is AF lens. Thanks, JJCPA

You can actually, and I would like to, and am actively considering it even...every time I view the dedicated thread. This is for A mount, carsten. You change the mount and use an M42 solution, only for MMJ.

I'll dig out the page URL for you this evening if you are interested, but you are on F mount so maybe not for Nikon. It's fairly complex from memory...

crazeazn, the others should be fine - check out David's site. I have the 50/1.4 myself - was easy, the 85/1.4 is in the same basket as the mighty 35/1.4.

A mount is Sony, right? He said D700/A900, so I was only answering for that one lens for the D700.

Interesting, so even the wide mount C/Y's (35/85) can potentially be Leitaxed for FF A mount without clearance issues. I would REALLY love a D700, sighs.

I did see your review of the lens in mf lenses which was nice since there is not a lot of info out there. I took a few shots last night free-lens style since I am awaiting adapter to come.
Pretty sweet lens. I notice in your comparison shots its rendering of the background where it retains shapes in the OOF bokeh rather than obliterating them like the Samy.
This reminds of the undercorrected SA design of the new ZE 35/1.4 which also retains shapes in its bokeh and has the slower, smooth transition to OOF.

You're welcome. And welcome to the Zeiss Biotar world ..

wayne seltzer wrote:
I also see the biotars typical strong cats eyes render in some highlights.
That feature of the lens makes it fun and creative around lights like Xmas lights.
The swirly bokeh and impressionistic painting rendering in some cases are also reasons why I wanted this lens.

Yes it has cat's eye bokeh ring
The bokeh not for everybody off course. Some of my friends said the bokeh was dizzy .. they didn't like it ... haha
For me it's very impressionistic like you said. We just have to find out which condition works best.

So when traveling or on a photo session I usually bring my trio bokeh lens:
Biotar for it's unique rendering, along with either Samyang, Canon or Rokkor 85 for very smooth bokeh, and either Zeiss 85/1.4 or Summilux 80 whic bokeh is in the middle between harsh & smooth (which I like it the most)

There is one more lens with unique character too, it's very small and light, it's silver and ... it's Zeiss too ... the CZJ Biometar 80/2.8 ..

wayne seltzer wrote:
One last thing, your shots really show the Biotar's excellent sharpness and contrast wide open as it goes toe to toe well against the Samy which is no sloutch either wide open as we know.

On above shots the Biotar looks sharper maybe because the scene is more contrasty than the cloudy scene on Samyang shot But actually from a couple of comparison shots, the Biotar looks sharper than my Zeiss 85/1.4 C/Y and Samyang 85 (mine is non-UMC version, where the new UMC version is much sharper; so far only in Nikon mount).

Looks like you have a nice set of portrait lenses. My favorite portrait lenses have been contax N 85/1.4 and Sony-Zeiss ZA 135/1.8. I also have Samy 85/1.4 and 85Lmk2. But Biotar will be a nice addition due to its different character/rendering.
I have seen some postings on the net where people got the Exakta mount version to work on their FF camera but it seems like usual, that you have to find an adapter which is the correct thicknes to reach infinity focusing. Hopefully, I won't have any mirror hangs. I have not had any while free-lensing it with a m42 flange adapter in between camera and lens. I will try to post one of those shots from last night.

Argghh ... that Contax N 85 and Zeiss ZA 135 are my dream lenses .. .. along with ZE 100 MP. Hope someday I could have them, at least try them.
For ZA 135, I am still thinking of modify it to EOS mount (no aperture control) or get an affordable used Sony A900.
Please share more photos and info about those lenses.

Good luck for finding the right adapter

R.I.P. Marco Simoncelli - 'Super Sic' You were with us too short a time.

Fefo.1979 - I also liked your jetty detail photo - last one of your Lake Garda series.

FlyPenFly - great watch shots!

I'm looking forward to trying my newly bought Contax 28-85 on both 1D Mk III and NEX5N, but no time next weekend.

I mentioned about my conversion sometimes before in this and other threads- you could find them in my posts. My conversion is rather different from other , it keeps AF, AA and data .
This C 645 80mm f/2 of-course faster than any C/Y, Zx but slow in comparison to converted contax N EF ( or SA), and not many like it around here - as I hope can see some dis- or advantages of my conversion.Thank for interesting .
@nixland :My converted C 645 80mm f/2.0 still keeps some improving secrets, so I couldn't release this time, sorry.

I believe Wayne has adapted the ZA135 to Canon and has a crude kind of aperture control via a little lever, a bit like Nikon G adapters I guess.
