FlyPenFly, Philippe, cyra, Carsten - Thank you

Carsten - It is true that I pushed sharpening to those two just a little, but not by much. Mostly, the coarse impression is coming from the way how light was raking the surface, picking up every little bit of texture and dirt. I

Lotus, Gregg, Bif - wonderful shots. Bif , your 100 MP shots are really well done.

Bif, that first shot has a lovely look to it, sharp, but not too little DoF.

It was entertaining, but not ironic (maybe you meant sarcastic?). It would have been ironic if Lotus actually was the guy with the guitar.

@Lotus: Get well soon! Glad to hear you're not in pain.

Thanks.
Bifurcator is correct in his use of the term "ironic". I don't see "sarcasm" in his remark or in my posting. He merely pointed out the verbal irony that he construed from my posting -- a disconnect between expression and intent (created, perhaps because he thought too much about it). Sarcasm usually refers to an aggressive remark, that often uses irony, directed at someone or something that is bitter, caustic and/or intended to ridicule or inflict pain or insult. There is none of that here.

Just so there is no mistake, here is another image of Mr. Hitchcock taken while I was sitting. This time he standing so there is no confusion. ;-)

xbarcelo,
It's all good man. Don't even worry about it! Every day is a new day for me. Thanks for the compliments too!

Greggf,
Yeah it's the one that does 1:1 and it is sharp - that's for sure. It's almost too sharp if there is such a thing. The bokeh is so sweet I can't mess it up even by trying to. The colors are sweet - neutral, accurate, and saturated to the same level as the real-world scene. Working distance at 1:4 - 1:1 is just what the lens doctor ordered. It's sharpness at f/2.8 is the same as at f/8 (rare in my experience) and I can't get the thing to flare no matter what I do - even shooting directly into the Sun. There's no CA anywhere to be seen either. And as most Zeiss fans will tell you; the 100mp has the most 3D-ish (signature Zeiss) look of all the other CZ products.

If I were to write an objective consumer review, about the only faults I could attribute to this lens are:

1) it's a little heavy at 740 grams (1.63 lbs) and,
2) the focus barrel rotation from infinity to 1:1 (~ 40cm WD) is close to 630º - almost two complete rotations.

I like heavier lenses so this is no trouble for me personally. The Barrel rotational pitch is absolutely perfect for macro... but if you're trying to use the lens to follow a bee / bird in flight or a running dog, etc., it takes some getting used to! You hafta grab the focus barrel with a firm grip and give it a torqueful crank in or out to get from subject to subject if they're at all at different distances.

That's it though... Everything else about it is perfect. Some fine designer did himself proud with this design!

His acoustic guitar looks really old. Wonder how old it is? Or is it some fake old vaneer surface on it?
Lotus, another sweet shot of an alt music icon!

That's real and actual abuse. I play classical and am pretty familiar with conditions. But that can occur in just 3 or 4 months by not caring for it too. The pick-gard wear indicates it's been played hard for at least half a year tho.

throwing in some more test shots from the market with the ZF 28/2 if anybody is interested. I think it has better performance than the 25. I can shoot that lens wide open all day long ;-)
- which is more problematic with the 25 due to it's sometimes rough bokeh at 2.8.
For me 25 is the more useful cocal length though (between 21 and 35/2). I am really looking forward to the new 25/2.

all wide open

Here are two shots comparing 35/2 and 25/2.8 wide open. (ZF.1 on Nikon D700)

35 @2

25 @2.8

should have done one with the 35 @2.8 as well. Maybe I have. Have to look it up.

I will try do do a comparison of 25, 28 and 35 at some point at 2 and 2.8.

I find that the 28 is rather good to shoot directly into the light. It seems to have not to much CA. In these two shots the higlights are pretty much blown, still I think it works out alright, or what do you think? (at f8 and f11)

two more with the ZF 85/1.4 with visible CA, although C1 did a good job at reducing it a big amount. (@f5,6 and f4)

Well, based on your tree shots, John Black's shots on pebble place, and Hrannar's shots in the ZF/ZE thread, I have now ordered a copy of the 28/2. I hope to have it by next week.
