Hmm, in what way is it tricky?

One of the big issues I have is that it won't close down at the long end or in macro. Besides that I think it's a beautiful lens.

The problem is that it is very far from a parfocal design, which means that every time you adjust he focal length, you need to refocus. So, in effect, I open it wide, focus, check composition, which I can't manage unfocused, adjust focal length, open it wide again, re-focus, then stop down. Not exactly quick. But, hey! maybe others know something I don't about using this lens. I'd love to learn...

Actually, it is parfocal, at least it matches at 35 and 70 to the point where I get more accurate focus zooming to 70 to focus, then back to 35 for the shot. I don't know about the intermediate ranges (I don't have live-view), but I would assume they're not far off. I know someone did extensive testing in the 35-70 specific thread on like page 8-11.

A lot of VS users do as Sp12 does. I usually set rough focus first, then concentrate closely on composition (focal length); when set, only then do I do make the final focus decision. Then stop down and take. A900 VF = no LV.

Maybe much tougher for your typical focal distances, philber.

I will try again using your method, Sp12, as soon as our very bad weather lets me take a few shots in between raindrops.... thanks for the advice.

Robin - Great shot of poppy field. Shower of light in distance really adds to this shot.
Morfeus - Stunning portrait.
FlyPenFly- I know. It has been over a year with the covering. I sort of have been treating is like an art project, like Christo's. Wonderful capture of leaves with the tree trunk cleverly place behind.
Morpheus - Talking about chiseled. Great separation of subject too.
SP12 - I don't own the lens, but your technique sounds just like what I always do with video camera.

More from walking around with CY50 / 1.4. Shot somewhere between 1.4 - 2.8
I must say, the new leitax mount's f-stop groove makes a huge difference in shooting. Now, I know what f-stop I am using without leaving my eyes from the view finder. Remembering exactly which f-stop was used for each shot at the end of the day, however, is a separate challenge.

It may not be "technically" parfocal but functions as if it is - I've spent the silly time doing the test comparisons on my lens - it's as close as any non-LV method. A lot of folks seem to have difficulties focusing this lens - I use it so much I just "know" the lens - it's almost "automatic" including using it with filters. :-)

fefo, that second shot is sublime (maybe a bit bright, but I lost my monitor profile in the upgrade to Lion, so maybe not )! North Italy?

Fefo, I love your fist shot! Well done!
Morfeus, another fabulous portrait from your time in Lalibela. You both make me feel that I want to go there, and that I am there already!
