Cyra - exploring something like that is what I meant with a lowkey version - in my first comment to Carsten. Sometimes shadows should be shadows, but show something what's hidden, HDR give that as an option among many things.
Carsten - FWIW, I did start my HDR journey with 3 shots, typically +/- 2EV. After a while I got worried that I missed something so I did some tries with multiple manual shots instead. I did not see it gave more. And in my case I was more worried with the alignment (ie losing sharpness) when combining them.
Samuli - yes it is a great lens. You're likely to be correct about a mis-use of a slider. I always try to equalize light so if it's the highlight slider in ACR or any of the other methods I try I dont know. And I think it's called "Recovery" in my version of ACR. In case you want to see more examples with the 28-85 I posted many examples in a thread that's still on page one here - it's "Ramhälla Bruk "...something. I brought plenty of lenses but ended up using more or less only the 28-85.
Also Samuli, nice shots, both of them. As I am (or I prefer to say that my cam is) becoming a CY yunkie it was nice to see an example with the 28/2.8. That, the 28/2 or perhaps 25/2.8 is now on a shortlist.
Earlier today I got hold of a Planar 100/2. With helpful input from fellows here I could not resist although I already have the 85/1.4. We had low rainy skies today but regardless I entered Samuli territory to exploit the F/2-2.8 character. I needed quite high ISO due to the sky but it turned out well although needing slightly more sharpening and NR than usual (Canon 5D2 + EG-S, handheld).

Recovery should not do that kind of halos. Recovery is typically operation, which "heals" burned areas utilizing raw information of pixels without color temperature and values of surrounding other color pixels to determine better values for blown pixel (same time some sort of overall curves adjustment is adjusted so all bright pixels are adjusted not just the ones with blown channels). Highlights and Shadow sliders do exposure adjustments to RGB-photo based on area brightness, and are typically reason for this kind of halos.
However I don't know how they have named LR's sliders, I tried the initial beta 7-8 (??) years ago and have been using Aperture from the day it become available.
I did find your Ramhällä Bruk series; great work enjoyed watching the series. 28-85 has really strong Zeiss look while 35-70 is maybe better what comes to some measurable and easier to understand qualities, but I clearly should have purchased 28-85 not 35-70 back in 2008 (or 2009) - now after getting used to EXIF-info etc. from ZE lenses and Leitax mount on my Leicas, it's highly unlike I would get lens, which I would need to use adapter.

Hmmm, not what I expected; bokeh definitely smoother and bokeh highlight have better concentration of light than modern version (=MP 2/100). Looks more like 85 planar shoot at f/2.8 from bokeh point of view. Hard to shoot forest if you have no directional light, everything is so flat.
Had hard time to choose will I post the f/1.4 version (bigger "bokeh balloons") or f/2.8, which has tons of better quality in bokeh and subject. Finally went and chose the f/2.8 - Zeiss Planar T* 1,4/85 ZE:
Wilhelm, congrats on the Planar 100/2. I dig that lens. Still have it. Too bad I can't use it on the D700. I think it has even more pop than the 100 MP. But I remember the color was a tad cooler from the Planar, I think. It's an awesome lens.
Here is the portrait of Russ Swift a famous car stunt master, who holds 3 Guinness World Records. He did very impressive performances yesterday on Subaru's cars in Ho Chi Minh City.

Congrats! Based on your masterful handling with the VS28-85, this new lens is sure to generate some memorable images. I like to call the P100 a macro lens for infinity focus: no linear distortion, uniform performance across the frame from wide open, extraordinary bokeh for a Planar. The slightly lower contrast is the price paid on film, but you don't shoot film. On DSLR, I use the S100/3.5 C/Y because I don't want to shave my P100. Okay, I did take this silly shot w/P100 and 7.5mm tube:
Thanks Aham, Samuli, mortyb, Carsten, Contas and rico!
Contas, your shot is great but I lack that biting sharpness the Zeiss'es are capable of for the eyes. Regardless it's an awesome shot! Yes, it's China lamp, hence the rust.
Rico, thanks. As a product shot it's awesome -colors and details are great in my eyes I'd buy even a Nikon in a second :-)

Now, got the CY 35/1.4 noon today from Belgium, like new. Crap weather but I just posted some starting shots in the Zeiss 35/1.4 thread and here are some others from today.
Funny thing, brought an umbrella cause of the cr*p weather, intended to do a bench shot in this tiny square. Wind was heavy and umbrella blew into the scene just to annoy what I was looking for IMG_9422 1280 by Wilhelm Frank - Stockholm, on Flickr
Another loft shot from my Wünsdorf tour. This time I really tried my best to stick to what the scene really looked like to my eyes (which is neither as contrasty nor as dark as Cyra's suggestion for my other shot, and the two locations were similar in that respect). 9 shots (I had two more but threw them away; my compromise for now), and I only did the "look" in Photomatix Pro, and did the rest of the processing in Lightroom, including saturation and making it a fair amount darker, since the middle shot was too light for the final look, but I had to keep the range high to get some detail onto the back wall.
carstenw wrote: The rendering of that lens just makes me dream. I should really buy a ZF/2 35/1.4, even though I have the Summilux...
Thanks.. guess it would fit nicely in your Zeiss lineup. The 35/1.4 has that special dreamy character (goes for CY as well as the ZF/ZE). What's the deal with the Summilux, does it have a "character" or is it just clinically perfect?
Thanks wfrank, there was a near chaos moment, everyone wanted to get near to him and received postcard with his live signature.I hoped that 5D2 have built-in flash.
That zinc-plated kerosene lamp I used till was a 5-years old child, this can endure the strong wind and rain, so we call it "typhoon" lamp- there are better painted and enameled versions.
