Sorry about your loss. I can relate in a way because last year we lost one of our beloved dogs (a Basenji named Rocco) about 1/2 way though his expected life span. Definitely a shock. He was a very good friend, maybe even my best friend. A disease somewhat common to his breed attacked his kidneys and, by the time we figured out something was serious and got him to the vet, it was too late and his kidneys had shut down. We had to make the decision to tell the vet when to push the euthanasia drugs though his IV. I literally held him until he stopped breathing, crying like a baby. I could not eat or sleep well for weeks. Even though it was June 28, 2008, I still miss him and get tears in my eyes now and then (like now). Again, very sorry.
