Hibiscus Harlequin and Friends

Stretching the wings.

The flower, the heart of the matter, is home to a host of small black flies and beetles. Finding one fresh is uncommon.

The beetles end up all over, and under, the Harlequin.

I came upon this fellow as he was climbing out of his old coat, also on the Hibiscus.

Used to look something like this. They appeared in numbers on the Hibiscus around the same time as the young Harlequin were hatching.

She? \'s been guarding her eggs for a week or so, fending off smaller bugs, and when they hatch they herd around the branch and she backs a way down and sits some more.
