ID help on winter hawk - ferruginous, not rough legged?
Perched on an irrigation pipe, Paradise Valley, close to the Yellowstone...
I revisited files, and have added a blurry fly away shot, which provides a view of the underside. Based on the lack of prominent dark banding on the tail, I\'m voting for this being a ferruginous hawk. What do you bird experts think?
On the other hand, this would be a rare sighting of a ferruginous in Montana in the winter.
