Can you do an exit check and see how many are taken between 300 and 400? If its not many, get rid of the 100-400. Wen you need 400 you still have the option on 70-200+2xTC III (which I have used to good effect) and if weight isn\'t an issue, the 300 2.8 IS plus the 1.4x TC will produce Stellar results.
When you travel if 300-400 is a rarity in your focal length, then just take the 70-300
