I have the same problem with the bulk and weight and I am (still) considering or looking at a couple of options:
1. Get a T2i with a 17-55/2.8 IS lens.
2. Get a Fuji X10.
Option 1 is rather expensive, so I am leaning more towards Option 2 ... but I am waiting for either the price to drop ... or for Canon to announce/release a mirrorless body, ala Nikon N1.
