Here they all seem to have SLRs with external flashes. Yesterday during the first dance the dude was yelling questions from across the room about his flash to me...
had it happen to me, when you go cards go out to everyone for print sales (cheaper than the pro), also had them shoot over my shoulder the setup formals. Desperate measures in desperate times Now i would walk if this happens and tell clients from the off.
maybe they just want to put a different spin on things. sometimes DJ's like to mix it up. They want
to have a record of their wedding work. maybe they're board. They want to play a little. They're
on track to become a photographer.
The only way this makes sense to me is if they are trying to show off some kind of lighting setup they provide..or show tons of people on the dance floor because they know how to "work the crowd" or whatever. Shooting the first dance? Formals? Why would they need to do that? Lame.
1. Say 'at this time' and 'special dance' at least 100 times
2. Start song
3. Grab SLR and point flash however the photog point theirs
4. Take at least 200 shots before song ends
5. Update Facebook status about how much you're rockin this wedding.

Tony, raise your prices to my levels and you won't be stuck dealing with budget DJs anymore. I think your work is getting close to the point where you can realistically do this... you just need to believe in yourself.
PM me for pointers on how to reach hotter, higher budget brides.
And if you'd like a one on one workshop, I'll say one thing... I'm cheaper than De Rox. .... unless you want me to coach you all in Italian in which case it gets expensive and you'd have a hard time keeping your wiminz off me.
They're looking to add percieved value to their packages with party shots or whatever, plus these days a lot of them are just hitting play on some iTunes playlist and letting that take care of itself. I've also seen them doing little slideshows of the party (which doesn't make all that much sense to me), but I think a lot of it is the ability to turn it around and show their work and everyone having a great time.
I've seen many vendors with dSLRs shooting their work. (including DJ's shooting the dancing) Kinda tacky to ask the photog how to use the equipment though.
Attended a wedding as a guest yesterday. Once the DJ started playing music he started blasting away from his podium and floor in machine gun style with a D3/big zoom/battery pack powered flash combo during every song. I got up to go to the rest room and noticed the clearly upset young lady photographing the wedding. Asked her if she tried to talk with the moron and she said he told her "what's a matter honey, too much competition for you." I told her that she needed to mention something to the bride/groom about her inability to document the reception if this continued. I can understand taking some shots during a song or two for their blog. Common sense would dictate coordinating with the wedding photographer IMO.
Seems to be an East Coast thing. At a wedding last year in NY, the DJ "team", about 6-7 strong, 3 of them were taking photos during the dancing sequences. They set up 2 large LCD's above the DJ booth and displayed images they had taken throughout the night. I've never had that happen here.
there are a few here that put sell those pictures on their site after the wedding.
there are a couple that actually orchestrate the whole night for their own photo opportunities.
ANNOYING.
i'm standing there thinking,
"this is dumb. nobody wants to do this, much less a picture of the dumb thing the DJ made them do.
but if i don't take pictures and he does, i look like a lazy douche..."
