I didn't realize that Really Right Stuff products were now manufactured in Afghanistan. When did they move from California? I've purchased a number of used RRS products from B&H this year, and in every case they are certifying to the US Department of the Treasury, that this equipment was manufactured in Afghanistan.
edit: RRS has confirmed that everything they sell does in fact come from the USA, and that the mistake was on the part of B&H.
I've emailed RRS and asked them for clarification, but I haven't heard back from them yet.
I emailed B&H customer service about it the first time it happened, but never got a response. Normally goods from the USA are duty-free under NAFTA, but when the country of origin is a place like Afghanistan, these items are subject to duty and brokerage charges coming into Canada.

I just got a replacement foot for a 500/4L IS from them. No mention of Afganistan, but it could have been made some time ago in the US.

The shipping documents from B&H include a sworn statement as to the origin of the goods they are selling. The form they use is from the US Department of the Treasury, for the US Customs Service.

B&H probably has bad data in their database about RRS products. Last I heard, RRS was proud to manufacture their gears in the US...
Apparently so. I guess nobody bothers to read the parts about "I certify that the information on this document is true and accurate... and that I am liable for any false statements" when they fill out those government forms...

when they added it to the database, I'll bet that there is a Country pulldown menu and US is at top and Afghanistan is next and someone slipped.
That makes sense... I just noticed they show some Canon gear as being made in Afghanistan too. Maybe that explains some of the the crazy duty and brokerage charges on the new Canada shipping options too.

RRS is in San Luis Obispo, CA, but they won't tell where the contract manufacturer that actually machines all their stuff is located. I'm sure it's in the USA.
