p.1 #1 · ROKKOR Telephoto Image Thread

Just a place to post your Rokkor telephoto images as there was some talk about doing so in the "ROKKOR Normal-ish Image Thread".

There are now Wide/UW, Normal-ish, and Telephoto threads here:

Wide/UW: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/954103
Normal-ish: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/924270
Telephoto: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/954105 (this thread)

MC Tele Rokkor-PE 200mm F/4.5 and I can't even remember what aperture these were shot with. I already did my wide open (4.5) tests and my aperture walk so I shot these at whatever the sweet spot for the distance was plus weighting for hand hold-ability. I guess most are right around F/8 one stop - one or two may be wide open - a few of the stream ones are closed all the way down at F/22. I shot some comparisons with a ROKKOR 135/2.8 manufactured in the same period and I'll add those in the future sometime - I mean, unless we blow the place up or something. These are from a gumball we took today up into the suburbs of Toyota City.

A "gumball" for those wondering, is just a bunch of guys on bikes cruising the backroads with no particular direction in mind - other than whatever the guy in front is thinking at the moment. It's pretty fun!

Thanks bifurcator for posting images of flowing water that really looks like flowing water and not like oozing marshmallows, which is always the case, when it is photographed with long exposure times.

Not sure if I agree with fracturing gear-specific threads, as we have enough as it is. But what the hell, might as well add a few anyways.

I like that 1st shot! Nice! On the split thing it's all good, the three threads are there for folks to use - if they place everything all in one thread I can mod the title easily enough.

Here's some of the "comparisons" I mentioned. Standing in the same place as the 200mm shots these were taken with the Rokkor 135mm F/2.8. I matched the same aperture as on the 200mm IIRC but again, I don't remember exactly what the was.

Nothing really comes to mind as a result of doing this other than that the focal lengths are different. Maybe I just dunno what to look for? Oh well, more later.

I went to Gamagori City yesterday and stayed over night. I just got back a few hours ago and this is the first image processed:

Lens: ROKKOR-PF, 100/f2.5, Camera: GH1, 1/1000s, f/2.5, ISO100, 85% Crop

Jeez, I took 1005 images. :o Of course about half or more of those belong to some massive bracketed panorama sets but still. :|

UG! I wonder how long it will take me to process them all. :?

Here's some more of these guys. Most are around 80% ~ 90% crops with 4 being 100%. All are processed and all were taken with the same Rokkor-PF 100/2.5. Most are wide open but I did stop it down to f/4 for 2 or 3 shots - tho I'm not sure if those are among these or not.

The 100% crops are marked with an * after their number.

some shots from the rokkor MC PF 135mm f/2.8. haven't really used this lens much because it falls into the focal length dead zone for me (135mm-300mm equiv). really unless i'm shooting a panorama or macro this focal length just feels weird. anyway random shots just because i thought the lens should be used. it's sharp from wide open and has nice bokeh with a bit of loCA, but i feel like that is probably true of every 135/2.8. all wide open:

Yeah, possibly. I think the Rokkor 135's are sharper than the canon FD's or the Pentax's tho. They're on par with the Zuiko's but I think the Zuiko's produce more CA wide open. The Nikkor 135's almost don't produce any CA - at least that I've noticed so far. The Nikkors are odd ones! So far almost every Nikkor prime I've tried doesn't alias the EVF so while shooting with them I think they're NOT sharp. Yet when I open them up in the editing bay they're thee sharpest of the lot (mentioned above).

I like the 135mm length though. It's the longest lens that I can hand hold at ISO 100 in most lighting conditions without stressing. It's kind of a weird thing - I can hand-hold 200 and 300 and I don't notice it's stressful in a direct way but after about 20 or 30 minutes I break out in a sweat like, one would from shoveling dirt, and if I shoot "for hours" with such, I feel physically tired after. It's not a bad feeling but it's just kinda weird. Maybe it's from the level of concentration that's required? Anyway, 135mm is the cut-off point for that - for me - so I like them! And they're usually very inexpensive - which is always a good thing!

I like the shot of the butts BTW... Ooooo, one has lipstick on it!?! !! <wiggles eyebrows>

Love the shots, everyone - Sebboh, Helimat, Bif!
How are those to convert to EOS btw? Challenging, or?

looks like maybe the rokkor wide angle and telephoto threads should just be folded into the rokkor normalish thread since they're not getting much action.

in any event some old shots with the mc 100/3.5 macro. both wide open:

Here is a first shot with my Minolta MC APO 400mm f/5.6. So far the lens seems to be very nice. Nice colours, bokeh, and very well corrected for CA as would be expected from the APO moniker. It was also very easy to convert the mount.

Steve,
Nice! The 400/5.6 has great reputation. It's hard to find one though.
