Leady, that's some really cool bokeh. A really strong sense of velocity and motion.

In another thread someone asked me to post some samples of the Rokkor 35 from medium to infinity focus - so I thought why not post them here too.

I went out a few mornings ago and messed around with my copy of the MC W.ROKKOR-HG 35/2.8. Here's some of the results below.

I did the famous Brick Wall test. Well, kinda - (in order F2.8, F3.4, F4, F5.6) 100% Crops, JPG Conversion only RAWs:

All stops are available at http://tesselator.gpmod.com/Images/_Image_By_Lens/ROKKOR_35mm_2.8/ if you're interested.

Here's the full image of the building which was used for the wall tests (the crops were taken from these) - as I would normally process it. But I would normally bump the recovery slider first of course - to cure those blown out clouds.

F/5.6 - About 40 meters away.

A Tree... and some sky-thru-branches atop:

F/2.8 - Shows some lens bloom.

F/3.4 - Mostly cleared up in one click.

F/5.6 - I think this is actually f/5.6 even tho I have the file named for F/8.
It doesn't matter tho... those two apertures look identical at thais distance.
Between 15 and 17 meters from the Willow's trunk.

Here I'm between 25 and 30 meters away from this gazeeeeeeeeebo.

F/2.8 - Focus Point 100% Crop Embedded.

F/5.6 - Or F/8, again I forget which I actually used.

Distant Architecture & FG Trees - The microwave tower there is almost 1km away.

F/2.8 - with 100% Crop Embedded. (Damn flying rats! )

F/8 - with 100% Crop Embedded.

Stage Performers - from about 15 meters from focus point.

F/2.8 - Focus Point 100% Crop Embedded.

F/5.6 - Focus Point 100% Crop Embedded. (Again I think f/5.6 and not f/8 like I named it... <shrug> )

Just got the Rokkor MD 35/1.8.
Brought the lens to the lens repair shop but unfortunately the repairman could not make the lens to focus to infinity and he gave up. It only focuses at 10-11m max.

#1 Max focus distance

The color is similar to my Rokkor MD 85/1.7 that is rather muted and colder compared to my Rokkor MC 85/1.7 & 100/2 which is warmer and richer.

The bokeh, well, at first I assumed that it will be harsh, but it's quite OK, not as harsh as I thought And in some condition it has extreme swirly bokeh ... yihaaa

Another wide open shots.

ps: sorry for boring objects ... I am in the remote area again . with less interesting objects to shot

#1 this is the rendering that I expected, 'chaotic but artistic' bokeh .. I had to do more exploration to find out it's strength in this area.

#2 I don't like the muted color so made it mono tone

#3 longer distance shots (it hits 5D mirror in this focus distance)

Yes, it's the 49mm version.
The reason I bought this lens is to have a fast 35mm FL lens that has completely different rendering than my Canon 35L

Thanks Sebboh. Agree, the closest one should be in focus
I am still learning to pick the right aperture for better composition especially for very close shots.
The fast aperture always tempting that I often forget to close it down few stops (f2.8-f4)

By the way below is the lens mount photos. At infinity focus. And as I mentioned before it can only focus 10 meter max.
I think it's difficult to remove or shave the black part (red arrow). Or is it possible?

Well, if it's too difficult I will use this lens only for close up shots (flower, etc.) and portrait shots

what makes you think it is that black thing that is preventing infinity focus? is it catching on your eos mount? i would think the lens retaining rings would catch the mirror before that thing would. i don't have that lens but it looks like the black bit could be removed by removing those screws and then you would just have to file the edge that remains. i would take the optics out of the lens before doing any machining or filing though.

Yes, currently it's the protured part on the photos that hits the mirror beyond 10 meter.
But what I mean is exactly what you mentioned on your next statement, that is removing the black part so the outer ring (silver mount) could be made thinner until it levels with that protured part at it's MFD. But I don't know wheter on that level it will have infinity focus.
At least it can focus more than 10 meter

i have that lens, 28mm 2.0 d49:

you can remove the black stuff around the lenses. my one has infinite now - but it is dangerous (scratches can be easily made)

however, i my opinion the performance of the 28mm at infinity is boring !!!!!! accordingly i suggest you not to change it and wait for a mirrorless FF-camera. it is just 1-2 years

best, L.
