Speaking of Bryan Peterson. Besides having a great book, he also does tutorials on YouTube that are really helpful.

Leighton, he STOLE the lens...

I checked it out when Mihai was considering it and although it is an earlier AI version, it has the same optical design as the last version. It may have a longer focus throw but I don't think that will pose a problem. I now count the 135 f/2 as one of my desert islands lenses, right up there with the 180 f/2.8 AI-s.

Congratulations Tony! I've come to the conclusion it is smarter to take all your proclamations with a grain of salt...

Leica yes, Leica no, sell your MF lenses, buy more... Thanks

I thought as much. These kind of deals are few and far between and you need to pounce as soon as you can.

The seller actually dropped his price $50 between the time I saw it and when Tony picked it up. But you're right Leighton. If one is in the market, the first thing to do is get a handle on prices so that when a deal falls in your lap you recognize it for what it is and jump on it. The old adage is "he who hesitates is lost." At the same time, finding deals requires a fair amount of obsessive shopping which doesn't suit everyone's life or style. I've won some and lost some, occasionally with luck rather than diligence. I'll take the wins however I can get them...

Hope your back is doing better.

Well had hoped for some old train this AM but... Oh well. Spent some time about town. They turned an old cotton mill into a multi store/actives center.

This old barn was an art supply place for years till it moved into the old mill just down the hill.

Has a few old time buildings out front one being a BBQ shack.

This Church has the oldest working pipe organ in the state.

The worst part is the poor insulation at work. My POD is on an exterior wall. A small closet door is a couple feet away. When the wind blows the door opens and lets in the cold air

Nice now take YOUR cold air back. Calling for a low of 16* here in the AM

Nice work on the old farm series

Yes, she seems to be determined. She is climbing anything she can in the house, in the back yard, on the playground, etc. I'm trying to harness her determination for positive things . . .

Her twin sister has equal climbing abilities, but is far more easy going and does not care too much about such things . . .

John,

how long has she been free-climbing? I don't see any safety harness (or whatever the correct language would be). Fantastic that you're supporting them in doing this sport.

Peter.
Welcome to F/M, and especially to this small , but active section. You are retired from a very noble profession. Looking forward to see your exiting images. Photography is the universal language spoken here.
Welcome

Did you used the venerable 105mm f/2.5 wide open?

Ya wide open
You guys are killin' me

The more I use the 105 the more I like it. It seems to me the right focal length in so many cases..

Brad, Monty, LL, lovely sets!

Here are my 2 humble contributions.

My wife and I have been walking each day to build stamina for when she has to deliver our new little boy. On one of our ramblings, I took my D700 and my 55/2.8 Micro... (which I am still planning to clean and sell... maybe) and I found this as the light was fading:

And now for something a little less formal. For Christmas with my in-laws, I went over the top on the turkey. I blended a pound of bacon and 1/2 pound of butter together with some spices in a processor to stuff inside and outside of the skin. Covered with another 1 pound of bacon weaved into a blanket. I just thought I used to make delicious, moist turkeys...

John, it's great to see your daughters always so active. I'm definitely hoping to find a job after the current school year that affords me the time to be active with my wife and little boy. It's definitely the best way to stay young.

Welcome Petur! I am very proud to see the European Wing of this thread growing! Your introductory message is very nice... probably is the best I've read for someone that joined this thread. I'm sure you are a sensitive person and this must be reflected in your photography. Just let us see it!

As for me... we have in Romania a very strong Nikon presence... unbelievable good dealer for a quite undeveloped country... If I place an order before noon time for a D700, D7000 or whatever lens I need, in the next morning I have the package at the door. Unfortunately the good part is for the new, AF stuff... For manual focus glass I have the same frustrations like you... just today I lost the chance to get a mint copy of 35/1.4 that was sold for $454 because the seller was open only for US customers... Also when I find someone willing to send it worldwide the problem is the addition of 2.5% import tax + 24% VAT... Having said that I want to encourage you to look on ebay.co.uk, ebay.de and ebay.fr... I found good deals on this side of the Atlantic and even though the price is higher at least I do not deal with import tax and VAT when buying from EU countries...

I look forward to see pictures from your wonderful country!

Mihai
