Peter, congrats to your new 600/4! Wow, it looks really clean - I've seen some really banged up long Nikkors (400-600mm) lately. Good job with the 135/2.8Q - the cow is very nicely captured and the "Diner & Bakery" too. The bullet-hole is amazing.

Curtis, the Sonnar in Nikkor-housing looks strange indeed. Over at the alt-forum some wildly modded lenses can be seen too - Zeiss-Optics for the Contax G-models in vintage housings as an example. I have the highest respect for people who do this mods, but I for my part will not pay premium just for "looks".
Kit building is forever indeed - I have my eyes on the PC-E 45/2.8, just can't make up my mind up if I should pay so much money for a "special purpose lens". But the 85/2.8D is so much fun already... ;-)

Leighton, great job on the flowers!

James, you have some beautiful models in your studio ;-) Great work

Ron, your long-distance flower-shot is amazing.

Philippe, I like the springy, airy look of your flower-image a lot.

Jeff, love your Sea-Dog-captures, especially #1! We have very few seals here, but their population is growing. I have probably a dozen (mediocre) shots of seals in their natural habitat and well over thousand pictures taken at the zoo or the local seal- research center ;-)

Mark, I like the portrait of your son a lot - completely lost in science.

Bill, very nice set!

Had an opportunity to shoot with the 50 mm f1.2 over the last weekend while in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Here are a couple of images from the trip:

I have one. Mine isn't hacked and it still "limited" AF with my 300mm f2.8 AIS on my D2X and D700.

The modified TC16A willl AF just fine. Congrats Peter!

I have both a modified and an untouched TC 16a, the untouched one autofocuses on my F4 but not on my D200, D3 and D800. The modified TC16a does not AF on the F4, but it autofocuses well in its limited range in the D200, D3 and D800. If focused well with my 400 3.5 and 600 5.6, but its optical quality varies a lot with different lenses, from poor to excellent.

Smart man, that's exactly how I would have done it. Actually, that's the ONLY way I could have done it.

Glad you're having fun Kevin. It really doesn't matter how we get there, it is the journey that matters more than the destination.

I came upon this unusual lens on E-Bay a moment ago... a Carl Zeiss optical design mounted WITHIN a Nikkor lens body...

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Rare-Carl-Zeiss-Sonnar-135mm-F-4-135mm-1-4-Lens-For-Nikon-Barrel-Carl-Zeiss-Lens-/00/s/NjAwWDc5OA==/$(KGrHqR,!lIE9RoyrdvHBPnPkvedVw~~60_3.jpg

135mm at f/4 in a 135 f/3.5 Q pre-AI body... I've no idea whether this is an actual Zeiss product, but how strange.

Zeiss 135 f/4 for $669.99

would that lens be allowed in the forum?

Peter, I really like the autumn colors you've captured above. But I'm happy to report that I actually enjoy the spring here ;-)
Btw, the light on the second shot works great - it really brings out the leaf-textures

A few weeks ago i posted two images of a fountain-sculpture, taken with a 20/3.5 and 105/2.5.
Today I came across this fountain again and snapped a picture with the 55/1.2:

light and framing are sub-optimal, but I like to try to get more than 1 image out of a given subject

Peter, love your autumn leaves. The picture perfectly fits in our season, although Georg seems to have caught some sun today.
Georg, like your blowball wide-open and the fountain-sculpturen.
Sam, some impressive clouds in your supercell.

I tramped through the woods looking for birds and almost got a pair of cardinals, but alas I have a nice photo of a branch where they used to be. Went back to the car and the only shot I got all day was this dragonfly on the antenna of my car. d600 300mm 4.5 -

Nonetheless, its a neat shot. I live in an area where there are lots of these around, but they are all uppity and won't let me take their picture.
