Thanks for the comments on the seals! Here are two more shots of these remarkable animals:

sunbathing - 180/2.8ED on the V1, CA's removed this time

soccer practice - 135/2 Ais at f/4, D3s
Peter, the seals over here are "South African Fur Seals", I've tried to fiend a picture with a rugby-ball, but no success ;-)

Yesterday was the very first real spring-day here, time to play with the re-activated fountains in my hometown:

Fun with the 35/1.4 AI wide open (D3s, ISO100, 1/8000sec)

Are you following me with the Nikkor-Q 135/2.8? Its my current favorite lens, surpassing my Series E 50/1.8. Its a bear to focus at f/2.8 on my D7000, but when you nail focus, its awesome! I think you are a contact on my FB page, I have a set of just pics taken with that lens. Check it out.

20mm f3.5 on D600, polarizer, handheld - probably f11. You are looking down the North Fork of Lone Pine Creek towards the Alabama Hills and Lone Pine in Owens Valley, California. More MF images from this trip once I get home later this month. I took this one as JPEG by accident, but that allows me to post it while in the road.

Georg, This one is my favorite. Love it!

I thought I'd post a few with my latest acquisition: the 55mm f/3.5 micro. I picked this up for another project, but who says I can't take it out to play, too?

Still with the 55 micro: my daughter's sunglasses and jacket on a warm spring day:

Spring is here!! Right? This is what a came home to at 2330

Havent had much time to comment on all of the absolutely stunning images but I am enjoying them all. At some point I'll be able to shoot a few flowers too!

I feel your pain Craig, though I'm very happy I'm in California at the moment. I spoke with someone from Minnesota today and rather innocently asked how Spring was going. She said they'd had six inches of snow... Boy, I don't envy you folks who are experiencing a protracted winter.

I shot this today with the 300 f/4.5 AI-s ED-IF with a PK-13 attached. THIS is what Spring is supposed to look like...

And, THIS is what spot metering looks like...

Hi Kevin,

Yes, your wonderful shots of the flowers with the 135mm + PK13 pushed me into actually looking at this focal length, then I saw this shot you made with it and a little voice in my head said "Buy the 135mm Nikkor-Q you will"

So I cannot say the devil made me do it but the force was certainly with me that day.

BTW, I am glad I went digging back to find the picture of Yoda as it appears I skipped completely page 2779 which explains why I was so confused someone talking about Chuong's 16mm cemetary shot.
I'm glad I went back as I would have missed excellent shots from Philip and the NoBro Pizzaria, Scott's hopefull shot that Spring might be on the way, Laura's shots from the air museum (I like the B&W version of that funny aircraft best - on the helicopter (two more before bed...) have you posted the same image twice by mistake though?), Choung as mentioned and Curtis' new aquisition.
That's what 1 page on this thread can mean. Wow.

I went to a new to me area of our local park. I was walking the tree line with my D600 and the 300 4.5 EDIF. When I can to a clearing I ventured in a was face to face with a bared owl on the ground. We scared each other and he flew to a nearby branch of a tree and sat there posing for me until I wandered away. These shots are slightly cropped but by far this is the closest I have ever been to an owl in it's natural habitat. He let me get very close

Ray, I really like this one for the light and shadows, very sharp as well.

Ray, yes, the extra-reach of a DX-body is handy. I mainly use the D7000 as second long-lens camera when shooting sports - and for concerts, readings, where the kinda quiet D7000 doesn't disturb like the loud D3s.
Great job on the owl - well spotted and captured! Most owls I can spot over here are the ones pictured on a symbol for nature reserves;-(
Here's a wooden owl captured a few weeks ago:

...taken with the PC-Micro 85/2.8D - diagonal tilted to lay the plane of focus over the eyes. D700's on-board-flash as fill.

Georg, some might think this is simply a snapshot, and it would of been if left alone. But the processing you did on it raises it to a new level. Well done.

Now this one is stunning. You're ABSOLUTELY right about using spot metering on such subjects.
I've mentioned it before on the thread, but it's worth mentioning again. This video

is excellent when applied to such images. I haven't tried it yet because I just got the radio triggers this Winter. But when I see the right subject, I'm giving it a go.
